We'll be at the pod in April for central day with the Sunbeam so come say hello. You won't miss us amongst all the Fords!!!
For anyone thats interested the car is competing this year in sports Libre so we needed a National A race licence and we had to run the car last year with the Pinto to get the required clerk of the course signatures to upgrade to Sports Libre this year!
It's a bit of a wild animal now but ever so fast, so fingers crossed for the coming season!!!

"Sports Libre" Whats this class then Karl? I tried doing a search but cant find info on it.
What spec does the "beam" have? what are you likely to be running against?, where do you compete etc etc.
Cheers and best of luck

Hi Andy,
The spec is actually quite mad now, we've been doing loads to the car!
Basic spec is:
Body shell has been fully stripped and new transmission tunnel fabricated, new front and rear susension setup with revised bump steer angles and new bulkhead to reposition engine 4inchs rearward than std. This has kept the engine weight behind the front wheels giving us an overall fully fuelled weight distribution of nearly 50/50%.
NMS 400bhp low lag high torque high comp YB running T34 hybrid, greys, high torque cams, 24/24 head 3 1/2" exhaust system splitting into two 2 1/2" for ground clearance.
Triple cossie 4X4 cooler
Glebe straight cut box
Modified fully floating braced Atlas rear axle with 3.75:1 ratio and 70% lock ZF plated diff.
Bilstien coil overs, currently 300lb fronts, 180lb rear springs
AP 4pots front 260mm discs, cossie rear calipers mk4 escort 240mm discs
Pedal box with in car cylinders and bias
Full multi point cage making it essentially space framed. Picks up off all suspension points so no original suspension left!!!
ATL fuel cell with remote swirl pot and twin 044 pumps
Pair of carbon buckets and full race interior (Dashboard mounter controls for everything/fuses/etc)
Fully plumbed lifeline extinguisher system
Majoity kevlar panels, full perspex windows except front screen
10X13 comp ML rears, 9X13's front big selection of wets/slicks for different tracks
Thats the basic spec but we've done far more to it than I can list!
Sports Libre is a classificiation given by the MSA for cars competeing in hillclimb and sprinting that dont fit into any other category!!!! In essence as long as the car resembles the original silhouette mods are unlimted!! Cars in this catergory are mainly group B cars such as RS200's etc but you get all sorts really! It's basically the mad class and in my opinion the most exciting to watch!!
My bother and I and both anxious to see how we get on this year as its performance is breathtaking so we have high hopes!! We won our class last year in modified production saloon so fingers crossed again this year!!

Hi Lee,
I've not got this years rounds to hand but when I have I'll pm you the list. They're all over the country though so plenty of venues to choose from.

Old Pinto was around 210bhp at the very end of its development.
Basic spec of pinto was cossie spec bottom end, Full race head and cam, Weber 48DCOE's 13:1 C.R 26" 4/1 exhaust manifold.

i think i'm gonna have to pop along to a few hillclimbs this year !
how long have you been into the whole hillclimb/sprint scene? my family used to be involved a few years back in and won the championship in 1990 and 1995. don't go to see many anymore but it is damn good fun to watch. we used to go all over the uk including the channel islands and i've always wanted to have a good blast up the hills. their are some sweet cars at the events and i'll look out for ya!
whats your competition gonna be this year? i know their are some big power audi quattros but do they run in the same class?

My dad does hill climbs and sprints in his V8 Ginetta G27
he has recently bought a Pilbeam with an Andrew Hart BDA lump in, should be good fun!
The Sunbeam engine bay looks great
