Default kitchen project ;0) Updated 10/03/2011

Dont know if this is relevant section or if anyone even remotely interested Mods feel free to to relevant area

Thought i would start a thread about my ongoing kitchen project for ppls views and comments/ideas and maybe give others ideas to

Not the biggest kitchen ever but were not all loaded and might be relevant to more than most on here wot can be done to a certain budget . I will be doing all of the work involved apart from prob the plastering Which i had a go at before and was ermmmmmmm seen better shall we say lol

Right first few pics is wot i started with after 10+ years or getting by on wot was needed etc etc ie microwave and take away menus

As you can see pretty much mix and match with white applainces stainless and even brown lol Units pretty much dated to

So on to the first day

previous owner had made a cupboard from under the stairs but i just used it to hide junk so decided to rip it down and make smaller fit a few base cabinets in there and give me a bit more room to the left of it for an eating area which i dont have at mo

You can see the cupboards which i decided to mount on top of each other
Top one needed a bit of modifying though

Perfect

Uprights in for new wall

Onto the next installment

As i intend to put a worktop and few wall cupboards across this wall now i decided to pull wall apart to see wot i had behind the plasterboard to support wall cupboards and worktop

Found this from a previous doorway

After making sure everything was secure and supports installed for cupboards and worktop. Replasterboarded it all

Also had this annoying notch in the ceiling/wall where stairs comes down

So decided to get rid of it

For anybody after a new kitchen, avoid B&Q. They planned my kitchen and when it was delivered bits were missing, supplied the wrong sized sink unit so the sink provided wouldn't fit, parts were damaged and the first time we turned the cooker on it literally blew up and smoke started billowing out the top. When we stormed back down there they didn't want to know and tried to blame the oven manufacturer. To be honest it was the manufacturers fault because 2 wires inside that should have been sleeved were actually touching each other and had shorted out but B&Q should have replaced it and returned the faulty one back to Indesit.
Anyway that's my rant over, can thoroughly recommend Wickes though (and no i don't work for them lol).

To be honnest mate know where you coming from big companys have stock issues,
Whoever was fitting the kitchen should have checked if it was single bowl or bowl and a half.thats basic mate!

By the sounds of it yes oven at fault but b&q should have took it back and give you a new one, takes the piss they were funny with you about an oven they prob get for Ł100

And yes i fit kitchens for b&q

The thing is we did check it and it was right against what they had planned so we thought all was fine but when we were about to fit it we noticed that they had planned a bigger unit in a small space. I even gave them a proper dimensioned drawing of the floor plan of the kitchen (i used to be a draughtsman so it was a decent layout) and they still cocked up. I was going to fit it myself but in the end got a friend of the family to help me who used to be (and still is) a highly skilled carpenter before he retired. He wasn't very impressed with it or the continuous problems that kept cropping up either. Once we had finally got it all in i sent a letter to both my local supplying store and B&Q head office listing all of the problems that we encountered and threatened to report them to FIRA, the furniture ombudsman if they didn't pay me compensation and in the end i got Ł500 pounds back from them.

Bottom will be left open but unseeable And vent in top shouldnt be a problem

Todays progress then

Plasterer here nice and early and got cracking. Did a fine job to

Then was time for me to do some work lol
So in went the supports for wall units

Then decided didnt like where cooker switch was as it was hidden in one of the cupboards but made it awkward in the cupboard as it stuck out. And to save me cutting into the new cupboard back i moved it I hate seeing wires so it will be hidden in the new boiler cupboard so access not a problem and not in way of anything. Got a bit anal about the wiring but i'm a fussy git like that

And just to prove cooker still works yum yum
