Just a thought, but while your at it (and it might be too late now), why not put one or two ceiling speakers in (something like a Current Audio CS650DT 6.5" stereo would do nicely and not break the bank), so you can plug a portable tv, ipod, etc in?

Better than dedicating counter space to a ipod dock or similar.

Keene Electronics and Nuvo do in-wall amplifiers, so again no counter space required. Alternatively if you have a 2-zone av amplifier in the lounge you could power it from there.

Some cracking work on the kitchen there!

We were lucky with ours because we did ours when we first bought the house. Well, basically we did the whole house as it was an empty shell.

The kitchen is by far my favourite room in the house now though, albeit one I probably spend the least amount of time in

However there's massive difference in our kitchen. We had the back door bricked up in our kitchen to give us more space (we got french doors in our living room), we ripped the ceiling down (it was a horrid artex-style thing) and sorted all the wiring, and we installed recessed halogen spotlights. We put ceramic tiles down in our kitchen as well, with electric under-floor heating.

All of our kitchen was from Ikea, we got the whole kitchen (units/doors/drawers/worktops/oven/sink/all the little bits) for under Ł2,500.

Was going to scribe the worktops on ours like you have done, but my mate got called off to work miles away the week before the worktops were done and neither me nor my dad, uncle, or father-in-law had the necessary skills, so ours has the horrid aluminium joining bars in it. Although we at least got black ones to match the black worktop.

We also put in under-cabinet lighting, and plinth lighting.

You can't tell ours is a cheap Ikea kitchen at all, it looks really good for the money we spent (Local Magnet outlet wanted nearly Ł8,000 for something similar!!).

Incidentally, a skoda Octavia hire car proves to be a good way of transporting a washing machine and dishwasher (I had the Octy hire car for a week as my work had sent me on a training course and got me the hire car as transport. WIN)
