awsome piece of kit if i remember rightly its somebody called sean someone? from the usa? i think it was zetaboostboy522bhp who once told me about the engine/bloke

and also i think the only thing close to an original zetec engine on this engine is the rocker cover lol

this was owned by a lad called shaun carlson who sadly died earlier this year with a rare heart condition. this engine powered a space framed ford focus which had a unlimited budget as it was sponsered by meguires. the engine was producing 1000+ bhp at the wheels and the car ran constant 7 sec quarters. the engine is far from standard ie custom block , pistons , crank , rods etc etc but it was the cylinder head that got all the attention with esslinger engineering making a brand new custom cylinder head with revised valves a massive ports plus all new valve train gear. the engine program finished years ago as esslinger pulled out after building the engine parts so the cylinder heads are very rare but if anyone finds one give us a bell .
just remember this was running 1000+bhp in 2000 so we are light years behind and i personally dont think you will ever have another zetec running that much bhp again which is sad as it might of shut some of the cossie boys up lol

In the first picture, the turbo is blowing straight into the intake so wouldn't the AITs be incredibly high? Or are there other forms of AIT cooling used using say nitrous?

thats daft comparing a completely revised "zetec" (used loosely !) to a std format yb !

imagine what could be had from a yb with all new custom heads, blocks !

Sad news on Shaun's passing

Surely that thing was running either methanol or nitromethanol - the lack of intercooler is normally only found on such applications!?

Methanol runs very cool so no need for a intercooler/chargecooler

youve got them aint you jimbo with the cosworth blocks and heads, anyway i was only joking as i knew i would get comments lol. but yeh why havent cosworth designed the valves and port shapes and made them bigger etc when they designed that alloy head , surely theres gains to be made in terms of flow etc , and yes we all know the standard cossie head is good and far better than the zetec

yep ,35 mate it was a very rare heart problem , and he wasnt very well a few months before he suffered the same so i guess it was only a matter of time

cosworth just did the re cast there was no gains for them was there, unfortunately,

but its just budget isnt it, if a customer sits there and says push that engine till it blows up, then we know the limits, build another, then we could see genuine 1000hp yb's

be good to get meguires on board lol
