we have a fooooking great fir tree in the back garden, that must be getting on for 50-60 foot high.
i did intend on doing something with when we moved in 9 months ago, but thought id wait till someone complained lol
anyway, yesterday the neighbour did.
anyone have an approx price for such a beast to be cut down and disposed of?
over the next few weekends when i get time, i plan on buying a bow saw and and lopping it down.
but was just thinking to save me dieing, how much it would cost to get done by somone else

with the placing of this tree, it may go through someones front window, or take out mine and next doors greenhouses if i try and just cut it in half.
the plan is to tie rope to the big branches befoe i cut, then lower them down relativly safely lol
ill have to see if i can actually get up it first before a decision is made.

we had 12 lalandi (sp) at the bottom of my garden, the first time my Bro' came over alopped the tops off, one of tops swung over and landed thick trunk down (about 6" dia) in between my legs, if i had never jumped back it would have tore my bollocks clean off.
The second time were we asked by a window cleaner if we wanted them lopping for Ł50 or taken down to the stumps for Ł80 lol fookin bargain, he even took the trees away, couldnt give a shit if he did chip them and sell them on i got 12 trees down for Ł80 + a bonus for keeping my shed + fence in one piece.

thats what im thinking, but they havnt phoned back yet!
i do like a challenge, but i dont really have time at the mo for such a task.
i am tooled up now tho, and amate who lives a few doors away said he will lend a hand and he has one of those extendable chainsaw things, so a lot of it can be done from ground level.
it would just be a matter of avoiding the greenhouse, pond and next doors shed

well, yesterday i got a bit bored lol.
armed with my weapons of chioce being a bow saw, and an axe, i let rip
the worst part is getting rid if it all, but luckily the recycling centre is litterally 3 mins away. i have got rid of 2 car loads so far, and have another 2 or 3 to go, but unfortunatly the tip shuts at 4pm at the mo, so i had to call it day as i had nowhere else to pile up the branches etc.
as it stands now:

Pay for the rest of it to be chopped and removed
You will have major problems, getting the bulk trunk down in the end anyway
I know of a person that died doing the above simple job "told the tree surgeon" To fuck off i can do that for fuck all
And then fell out the tree and broke his neck

What a time to find out about the tree preservation order!
Cutting that trunk up is gonna be hard work. I'd recommend a chainsaw once you have it on the deck, but you still have multiple cuts to bring it down in stages and I don't think the tree will sprout lower down with no branches or foliage below 6'-7'.

i intend to get all the green off, then borrow the old mans chainsaw.
at this point my mate from round the corner can go up
might look into a harness, there is a sports shop in town that does stuff like that i think
im not stupid, and wont take un neccesary risks, especially not with a chainsaw in hand lol.
the tree surgeon fuckers still havnt rang back, so i guess they are not interested!

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
Just cut it down yourself, me and my old man cut about ten trees the same size of yours in his back garden. I climbed the tree and put a rope around it and then when he cut I pulled it so as to avoid his greenhouse. We chopped all the wood for firewood and have been burning it ever since. You wont sell the logs as the that type of wood isn`t brilliant for a fire as it burns away too quickly but if its free its ok. And if you keep the wood for the fire it has to dry outside and season for a year at least.

Don't forget to set it up to fall in the direction you want. My friend was one of the best tree surgeons in Liverpool, and knows it all. I've watched him take a few down. One was so big I could roll over on the stump and I'm 6ft!!
