A mates house, taken while he was doing a spot of gardening.

An 8 shot handheld panorama of Marsden Quarry, in between South Shields and Whitburn, in the distance you can see Souter Lighthouse

Dan - The quarry at Marsden provides limestone aggregates and agricultural lime to customer specific requirements.

Aggregates
Marsden Quarry produces a wide range of aggregates for the construction industry. These include sub-bases & fills, single-sized aggregates and also general fills and crusher runs.

Agricultural limestone
Both Calcium & Magnesium agricultural limestone is produced at Marsden. Magnesium limestone is also exported to the continent to countries such as Germany, Holland & Denmark.

maybe im being arsey, but im definitely going off the HDR images, i think some of them look super cool, but think i definitely prefer a proper " photo".

Thats not to say i wont give them a go once i figure out how

I do like HDR, But I dont think i'll ever do them. I like my pictures for what they are, I'm not one to play with photos unless its changing them to black & white.

Some HRD photos are proper good though, I won't deny that.

The problem comes when people think it makes a shit picture look good, I like it when it makes a great picture even better but theres times when you really cant polish a turd. Dont get me wrong, I went through a stage where everything and its dog got the HDR treatment, its a great bang per buck technique but like you say, it gets boring after a while. Its like any post processing though, all personal taste.

Matt, that colours are great in that, the car stands out immensely and you've hid the flashes well and theres no noticable reflections Ive got a flash and some triggers on there way, hope the dog doesnt go blind whilst Im using him as my test mule!!

I've been looking at this thread, and when walking my Dog I realised I can't control my urges any longer. The sunset looked fabulous and I wanted to snap it. I like the D60 and have done for some time and this week I shall buy it. However, how do lenses work? I only wan't the one, for now, lol. Is there a standard lesne that does all? I like shots of cars, landscapes, buildings and motorways at night etc. Is there a lense I should go for? Is there a standard one which will do all this, as I am on a budget.

Thanks, a very inspired, Benni.

Well, I wanted to jump in feet first and buy an sb900 and some pocket wizards but there was no way that was going to wash with her indoors so for now its a trusty SB28 and some cactus v4 triggers. I want to get used to the whole off camera lighting thing before I spend any decent money on it. In theory although its a 'budget' setup I should still be able to get a good feel for it so we'll see.

I think you've made the right choice. I sold my 900 for 3x 28's and havent looked back. I went for cybersync triggers from America though as they are up there with pocket wizards/skyports but cost me half what pocket wizards would have.

Stephen - i've tried playing around with the infrared RAW image you sent me but I cant get it to look anything half as good as the one you processed

Matt - Nice edit... the 2nd Golf photo look much better now I'd like to have a go with flashes etc but im not sure what to do with them... definitely out of my comfort zone there!

Sarah - I know what you mean about HDR images, but i'm still a fan... i think they look nice if done right, although its easy to go too far... as i have on one o two occasions Did you use Photomatix to do that one of your cossie? How many exposures?

Benni - The D60 is a cracking starter camera, for what you want the 18-55mm VR kit lens will be just the ticket... it's what i've taken 95% of my photos with

Matt dont suppose you fancy showing me how to make a proper HDR image, or at least make mine look slightly better, seeing as you commented how good they were on Flickr

don't take my comments personal, they were terrible though! haha!

you want to make sure your exposures capture the full dynamic range of the scene you're shooting (something you didn't do on yours) that way you don't have blown out highlights that look underexposed and a dull scene.

try using a larger number of pictures if you're having problems doing this.

when editing in photomatix look to make sure halo's are not being formed around objects (buildings/people) as this also looks terrible, you'll have to search for what the sliders all do as it's been a little while since i used it and it's not fresh in my mind.

Personally i'd just stay away from them. it's something that people generally do a bit when starting out (been there myself) because it gives a look thats not really been seen before and can be quite striking but its very easy to do and as this thread illustrates (this is not a dig at anyone, but the shots of santa pod HDR style are also terrible) can be done very badly easily, and ends up getting used for all manor of things.

So, to summerise:

Try and cover the full dynamic range of the scene. (personally i'd bracket 1/3 a stop either side of the correct exposure and it will be a bit more subtle then)

No Halos!

Try and make it subtle instead of in your face.

Experiment.

Hope thats of some help, as you can tell i went off them some time ago.

Matt.

pratley - I like that too, where is it?

Matt - Totally agree wth your HDR tips.

Benni - Woohoo... congratulations! How you getting along with your new purchase?

dvid The wife is jealous... she watches longleat on Sky TV all the time

Here's another one from me, i've fallen into the habbit of HDR, lazy photography Anyway it's a pub/restaurant in a very unusual location, built into the caves in the cliffside at Marsden beach, in the old days the area was well used as a smuggling den.

RED16- thanks, the picture was taken at Heathmount school, just outside Stevenage towards the A10. Was attending a small classic car show and went for a wander.

Great picture by the way, really need to get myself Photomatix.

Bit of a makeshift location after plan 'A' was closed off!

I think the location lets these down personally but please give you CC to help me improve.

Cheers in advance,
Matt.
