Does anyone have a Canon EOS50D and is it much better than the 40D? Been reading up about em and not sure.

Also how much is a 20D worth these days?

Like high tide the best, perfect shutter speed for the water, still shows the waves but looks smooth at the same time, good stuff

danja They're fantastic images, I totally agree with StephenC's comments... High Tide is pick of the bunch!

Was it taken with a Neutral Density filter to allow for a reasonably slow shutter speed?

Wow!! I'm impressed they look so much better than my originals

If you let me know your email address, i'll send you the RAW files, i'd be very interested to see what you could do with those! If you wouldnt mint that is

Thanks a lot

Edited to say : how/what did you do to those photos? I had tried to tweak the saturation etc in photoshop CS3 but couldnt get them to look anywhere near as good as you managed to

This would be your shutter speed. Set it to a slow setting. There are many things you can do with that. I like messing around with the shutter speed.

As said, Shutter speed. The longer the shitter is open, the more light it takes in, so it won't actually capture the object, just the brightest thing in picture if its moving.

You need a tripod thought tbh to get the best out of doing it.

I took this with a longer shutter to get the full flame, Wouldn't work without a flash, which I didn't want to use as you lose the colour.

and....

No not a daft question at all, i didnt know until a couple of months ago

I used a reasonably narrow aperture of F/13 to get a decent depth of field and also to allow the shutter speed to be set lower, ISO 100 so the camera's sensor is least sensitive to light which also allows the shutter speed to be reduced aswell as decrease noise, shutter speed of 25 seconds to get a long exposure, and set the white balance to tungsten.

As Charlie Chalk said, you will need a tripod as you just physically cant hold the camera steady enough to take long exposure photos.

PS, nice blow lamp pic Radders

Thanks for the comments

I use a Nikon D50, Nikkor 18-70mm, Nikon 50mm and Sigma 70-300mm.

I did use a ND filter yes, and I also use Circular Polarisers on all of my images, aswell as shooting in RAW

Well the newest starters model is the 450D with 18-55IS lens or the 450D with 18-55 and 70-300 lens. Both can be bought as kits. Well here in holland that is. I have the one with the IS lens cos i allready had the 70-300 from Tamron.

just a selection from the past year really. Currently using a Canon 400D with Canon 18-55 lens and Canon 75-300. The biggest thing for me has been the freedom to experiment, ultimatley if its a lousy pic you can hit delete!

for the price you would be better off with a d60 i reckon, the d40 a pretty old camera now and a lot of newer cameras have better features
