What weird strange looking cars don’t know why people do it, it’s a waste of money, and they must look like a dick driving it what an embarrassment.

What sort of moron does this?
Are you sure its intentional and not just an unpainted bonnet?
Surely if it were intentional you'd at least try and make the rest of the car match. Mint car with rat bonnet just doesnt work..
On a lighter note, I used to have a rat look beetle and rat look minor.
Both were 'rat look' by default, not choice.

It Wasnt Me!
I thought the 'rat' theme originated years ago from bikers basically doing anything and using anything they could to keep their bikes on the road for as long as possible, spending as little as possible on them!?
i.e. if it needed a mirror, 'make' one fit or if it needed forks, steal some off another make of bike and make them fit, if they happened to be lying around...etc
not make this rust and look grubby...

I think in an arty sort of way its really good... never quite understood it myself.... so years ago when I drove around in minis that were blue with yellow doors, bonnet and boot... oh and there was the orange one that I had to have a white bonnet on... was that "rat" or was it just cos I aint got round to respraying them?

I think you might start seeing more of this as the gov want us to buy new greener cars stricter laws on everything motoring related, every one has that little bit of rebellion in them. Just wait till Japanese boso style cars start appearing, the police wont know where to begin.

What a load of toss.
Ratty looking sleepers I can understand. Rat style hot rods I kind of get because it's been around for years. But making old Golfs and things look shite on purpose? Honestly, don't be a retard.
That Astra estate is just stupid, was for sale recently wasn't it? Was up for Ł1k

some of the above pics arnt to my taste, but thing is with the vw scene esp the air-cooled stuff is the varaity of the cars you get at shows, there allways something new and different that catches your eye, unlike the ford show scene which after me doing all the shows for 2 years i now dont bother as it the same stuff, different field, yes escos are awesome but to see 200 at a show in a line all the same with 18" compomotive mo's on can be abit boring!

I like the rat look. I've always seen it as flicking the V's to car purists.
I see modifying cars as a lifestyle choice and as a statement.
Their cars are built to their taste, its a matter of status.....why the fuck would they want to build it to a spec everyone likes?

I fucking hate rat look. Apart from the proper old school motors, anyone who does it is an attention seeking wanker who drives a bland car. Only way to make people take notice of said bland car is to make it look rusty and wank.

Looking at most of those examples i get the impression that rat look is just people that cant be bothered to restore cars!
its like the cheap option out of it! buy any old heap and spend a bit of wedge on the engine then get bummed by the VW massive! pretty poor imo
and putting white walled tryes on a mk4 golf does not make it "oldskool" as the stickers would suggest lol
