Not really - just an ancient NJ vs NY thing. People in NJ tell people they're from NYC (esp. when abroad) because it's cooler than saying New Jersey (as NJ is famously called the 'Armpit of America' because of all the factories and seedy people that live there. Secondly, they say that the NY Yankees, Giants and Jets are NJ teams as well, since they're so ass-backward they don't have teams of their own.

NYC is made up of five boroughs - last time I checked the police cars in Brooklyn had NYPD written on them. Manhattan is just another borough! I pay New York City taxes. Am I wrong here??
