Good car, id leave the looks, wheels etc are fine, im suprised nobody has told you to put rondells or MOs on it already
There tens of thousands of them in Japan, not hard to get, just all cost a fortune for what you get.

NIL- If you or anyone buys a AE86 thinking they easy drift cars they sadly mistaken mate, they much harder than most cars modded to drift spec like SX's or whatnot.
They cult cars, cool as fuck, classics, but not cause they better at drifting than others, far from it, they dead hard to drift well, esp at speed (i mean 3rd gear upwards) due to the lack of power, so when you good in one, very rewarding.
But you very rarely see 86s winning competitions, and thats for a reason.
Regarding AE86 prices, now they getting more common over here the price is settling down at last, heres a thread about prices, and the people commenting are long time 86 owners, so know the crack...

i agree with u, not the most esaies to drift theres not much power to use like the sx's have - i aint even attempted 3rd gear drifts yet id be on the redline
its light which means its good thru the bends - i can loose my mates escos throught winding country roads - i was suprised but no he has an M3 so il give that a go

i know what you are saying mate, but i was thinking the ae86 for two reasons.1..no turbo, its pricey enough replacing my t34 on the saff and 2...because as you say they are a cool cult car ive loved for ages.
but i may well end up in a cheapy 200 either s13 or early s14.have to see i spose.

Already got a Saff that looks pretty badass, id be diffing that up and getting some seat time before making a big commitment and blowing 5k on a 125bhp car you might hate.

huh?who was that to?
if me i cant mate.mines a 4wd and i couldnt drift a cossie in case i spanked it.what with original panels etc.plus the lock on a sierra is poo so they tend to be crap for drifting dont they?

Oh right, didnt realise your Saff was 4wd, well thas easy fixed
If you afraid to spank a Saff youd be out of your mind to spank an 86! Parts, and especially shells, are far more expensive and rare!
Sierra lock isnt the best, but unless you very very good and/or in competition you wont notice it anyhow.
My current drift car (ie one that works ) is a bog standard Volvo 360 with just a welded diff, and i can diff it up in that way better than less experienced drifters (but with plenty of track experience) in quite big spec Cossies, as proven last friday, but it wouldve been the same regardless of car they had, as its seat time that makes you better, not the car.
TBH Sierras arnt too good as standard, but with a few choise mods they get suprisingly good, mostly the mild mods needed to give more front castor and camber (as done to the fast ford drifty shed), then they handle tons better, the FF car is pretty fantastic for a basic car now.

yeah i spose you are right on the 86,ive just always loved them.before all the fast n furious/drift racer stuff.a bloke round the corner has one in black.standard and dirty but hardly any rot.he aint a young bloke and im sure he dont know what its worth.i left a note seeing if he would sell but it got rained on.
never really thought of anything like the volvo.i spose i could even try the e30 bm as they are cheap now.as much as i love my saffs i really dont think one would be a good car for me.it'd end up a cossie rep
love you s13 even though its matt black(i prefer gloss normally, bufty at heart)but it still works on your car for some reason.when you planning on taking that out on the track then?

AE86s rust like fuck too, even 5k ones are often pretty scabby, hence why people pay top dollar
S13s rust here n there too, esp the tailgate, mine was repaired (sill and drivers footwell) before i bought it and its pretty damn solid now, and bits are common and cheap so its no biggie.
My car? It will be out the exact second ive finished it, the volvo is just to keep me drifting in the meantime, its ALL about practice, apart from nights on the piss ive been out difting it every day since ive owned it, even when it still had the open diff...
James's Orange S13 is lovely and he's got really good in it too, I was a passenger in it the other day, impressed, and ive been out in a good few of the top UK cars.
Personally, id start with a shitter, ill put money i improve faster in the 360 than anyone normally does in nicer cars as in something else you always gonna be a bit afraid to some extent of smashing it, wheras in that its perfectly capable of doing all you need it to, but its totally disposible.
Last friday after hitting some stuff i was actually a bit gutted it didnt do more damage, i dented the rear quarter, bent the front bumper, and smashed the number plate, Fudgey took his bumper clean off, smashed a headlight, indicator, wing, and blew a tyre, no fair
