A friend of mine had a wasome rs turbo s1 !! The most interested thing was this car was a officially black one on the paper and build in 1984. I think this is a prototype build. I will add a picture where you can see this car was original from 1984 and black. If anyone knows more about this original black rs turbo s1's please inform us because we don't know much about them.

yea as far as i know lady diana ( is that spelt right ?) had a black series 1 i had a photo of her getting into it somewhere pretty cool and very rare , the car is still about somewhere in england , and what a peice of history to own

and the grille is obviously different but we have heard the apparent story about the grille

1, for Di
2, sold on to special customers

there was a story to go wi the pic, went something along the lines of ford putting a 5bar grill on(painted black) to make it look like an ordinary escort.....does the opposite in ma books....and the boy that bought it replaced it with a painted 3bar grill IIRC.
was on a thread somewhere, he has all the paperwork to prove it.....

i'll hunt later and see if i can find the thread!

Think the 5 slat grill looks better than the 3 bar one on this S1 imo.
Can't believe out of all the cars she could have had she choose a Series 1!!.. Top bird.. The lady obviously had taste!!

From what i've been led to believe, there was only one factory built S1 in another colour, and that was Princess Diana's black one..

All the others, my old mercury grey one included, were striped and repainted different colours, a few of which before they were registered!

 

thats well cool, I didnt know they made black S1's, let alone that princess Diana had one. Looks well mint though, I want one. lol

 

Yeah it was a datapost demo car to promote the datapost touring car. Not sure if it was factory done though? Then again it may have been an RS 1600i as well?

nah im sure theres a few black ones oonly 2 or 3 theres a data base thing on here of all the number plates remember reading it

 

i went through a stage of wanting a black one,and thats why i ended up chasing my dream and bought this a couple of years ago...





but then one day i broke the 4th gearbox in 2 months due to getting over excited behind the wheel,lost interest in it as i was sick of spending more time underneath it,in the freezing cold,greased up to my eyeballs and decided to break it

sometimes i do wish id kept it and put a naught zetec turbo lump in it.........

 

i had an xr3 black s1 rep once, always bugs me on these sort of threads that i never took enough pictures of my cars

 

black mk3's are the bollocks.....stoopid ford why didn u give us a choice of 2 colours

Well spotted.There was a black one at Ford Fair The Reg on that one was C***HAR.

 

di's had an rs 1600i grille

 

Isnt that the same as an XR3 grill.

 

i believe there where 2 black series 1 turbos made . 1 for the director of ford , the other for lady diana. the red series 1 was for the director of the post office. I believe that one of the black series 1 's belongs to the owner of Trade Centre Wales, apparantly he has 1 of every rs ever made.
