I think rules are rules, abuse a mod, get banned simple...

I like chip, he's helpful and very knowledgeable but he has a cunning way with words to get a reaction I find!

Sometimes you just have to bite your tongue and take it on the cheek, and in this case Chip didn't and was banned.

Tbh 'mo bent rims' has always gone on about how good his t4 was, chip just seemed to use mo's own words against him and it was seen as winding him up?

He spoke more sense & knew more about the technical side of tuning than almost anyone on here. What do you bring to the site mate. If he did your head it was because he left your IQ far behind. .

 

The way I see it the Mod was doing his job.

I thought he was being pretty cheeky when he made the comment on Mo's thread about his decision to change his turbo and it was worded in a way which I would have been offended by if it was directed at me.

OK it's a forum but it would put me off if everyone was like that.

 

Chip is his own man and will take it on the chin and simply move on and not lose sleep over this ,but in the words of Arnie im sure he will think "I'll be back"

Shame really, I get on alright with Chip and although he has a way with words he certainly tries to help anyone out, as he has for me many times in the past.

Bit silly laying into a mod though but these things happen.

I think Chip is a good part of the forum and his knowledge would be a big miss. He often tries to help folk out and is very good at technical discussion, on the rare occasion PF sees such a topic .

IMO the infraction points handed out for telling Eagle to wind his neck in was an over reaction on Eagles behalf. Being told to wind your neck in is not abuse in my eyes and if you feel it is then you must have led a sheltered life. Had he added something like "you twat" on the end then I would have saw no issue with him gaining an infraction and it would have been fair to do so.

I do think Chip could have worded his post about going from T4 to T34 in Mo's thread a little better but I didnt see a problem with it. It was a perfectly sensible question with a slightly sarcastic tone to it but thats the type of bloke Chip is and the way he posts. Its not like he went out of his way to be a dick about something.

Chips thread calling Eagle a prick did however deserve to be moderated, it was obviously an anger/frustration fuelled thread for what I believe was over moderation on Mo's thread post.

The forum seems to go through phases where anyone and everyone is getting infracted and banned for silly meaningless things when no one dares post incase they get targeted, then after a short while it will go back to being a good place and all will be well for a time. Then the, what feels like to many users, excessive modding will begin again and it goes to shit again.

I know its been said many times before but the modding does seem to be very inconsistant on here.

Just to add, I dont know Eagle or Chip and have nothing for or against either of them Im just voicing my opinion as a forum user.

The initial infraction seemed way over the top in my eyes. His comment to Mo was a bit cheeky, but there is far worse stuff posted on here, day in and day out. The infraction for his comments to the moderator was overkill.

However, he was asking for a ban by starting a topic calling said moderator a prick, so it swings both ways.

Is it a permanent ban, or just a week? If it's permanent, then I think that's a big loss of technical knowledge that the forum didn't need.

if thats the case its not surprising. you cant expect to get away with things like that regardless of who you are and what you contribute.
personally i always thought he was ok but i wouldnt lose any sleep over anyone being banned on an internet forum.

 

yea shame really as all the help i had off tabetha was 100% correct down to experience and not just someone who heard something off someone else or a different forum

simple solution to this and it could have saved the hassle, Moderators shouldn't deal with issues that personal to them.

eagle should have reported the insult, and let another moderator deal with it as its very easy to over react when it gets personal. at least another mod would have looked at it objectively.

on a site this size, i'm surprised its not part of the mods guidelines

IMO the pre-empting of any issue was WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY OTT there. Chip is (normally) far too clever to get banned and certainly knows how to prod buttons!

That modding was totally different from how others would handle it and thats generally the bigegst problem here

Although Chip's level of tech knowledge is well and truly up there with the best on here, the way he deliberately stirred and belittled really let him down IMO - whether he'd be the same in person is irrelevant, it's simply un-necessary.

Agreed. However, I think a lot of his posts came across as someone talking down to people because some of the members on here (not aimed at you or anybody in particular) aren't the sharpest tools in the box and the advice/comments/humour that Chip fired out went over their heads... so they automatically thought he was taking the piss.

Other times, however, I agree that he really was tearing them to shreds.

i never get why its always another user's issue to why another gets banned ! But if it makes your life complette then is abuse to the webteam plus is attitude to forum user's to which he has had several infractions for over a few months for the same reason so this was the last resort ! have good evening everyone and dont let this ruin the forum for you

i was looking at the comment made towards mo, all i started with was the end comment wasnt needed, which it wasn't.
i got told to wind my neck in twice, i didnt take it personally it was aimed at me in my role of moderating. had i taken it as a personal insult then yes i would have had someone else deal with it.
the infraction was for abuse aimed at a mod not a passionford user ...

 

That's all great and completely crystal clear now... but how long has he been banned for?
