Mk6 Escort Windscreen Cost?
So a pair of little f*ckers last night thought it would be great to chuck a rock or similar at my windscreen - dead centre (so targeted) and rip off my drivers door mirror.
Their probable reasoning - either because the police towed their car after complaints were made about them speeding (50 - 60mph in a 20 zone) and doing rolling burnouts on a street with hordes of kids going around which they are blaming me for (I'm not confirming or denying anything)
Or for their idiot mate being on the verge of eviction for being an utter pillock and threatening my wife while skulled on various substances (Yes I did complain about him to the cops and the council)
So any idea of the cost for a windscreen? So far the insurance want £50 and it'll be thursday before someone gets it sorted
Plus I also need to try and either reassemble the door mirror or buy another....more money I dont have right now, plus my other half is disabled so makes it much more difficult to look after her without a car......
needless to say, little sods should be shot or hung, worst part was i heard the noise, looked and didnt see anyone, so thought it was further up the street, till i went out this afternoon...

20K+ Super Poster.
Screen should be about £80, unless heated, then around £130.
I would have a major shop around with different companies, as a lot just add in the £50 so you don't end up paying it.

No, virtually no company will swallow the insurance excess for a normal private customer. Fleet and account customers are different, but regular joe off the street with a fully comp policy with glass cover and a 50, 60, 75, etc excess won't have it swallowed by the fitting company. Reason being is the company doesn't keep that money - they have to give it to the insurance company. So the Insurance company pays, say, £40 for an Escort screen to the fitting company, the fitting company take £50 off the customer and send it to the insurance company. If they swallowed it, they'd still only get £40 off the ins company, and STILL have to send the ins company £50, so they would end up a tenner down. Not gonna happen is it...

In the past 15 years or so I have only ever had to pay £15 towards a heated bronze with blue top tint, and that was due to the limit of the insurer being so low.

There are no "set" prices for "one man band" vs corporate companies. It's all to do with negotiated prices. I know SO many people in the game it's unreal; some work for themselves, some are company directors, etc. One "one man band" will be able to charge Norwich Union (for example) more than another - it's just down to negotiated prices. Autoglass and Auto Windscreens prices for the insurance companies are different aswell - I know, I've worked for both! As for them having unlimited cost, rubbish. As I already stated, Swift Cover, for example, are limited to a cost of £140. So if the job billed to them is £200, then they only pay £140 of it, and the customer foots the £60 (which in most cases is the excess). If the job cost is £1000, then Swift Cover pay £140, and the customer pays £860.
And there was never a "loop hole" - companies that did it take the hit themselves! Many a time when working at Autoglass we swallowed and excess. Not to get the business of the customer, but if we damaged something or whatever. Like if we fitted a screen, then noticed afterwards it was scratched. We'd offer the customer to not pay their excess. They're happy as they got it for free, and Autoglass were "happier" cas they didn't have to junk a £300 screen...
