I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
as you are in derby , Loom's scrap yard in spondon will get one out for about £100
what mark van have you got ? , if its a mk5 (91) on its a straight swap although the fuel pumps are coded to the key so you will need the original key or bypass the PATS which means taking the pump off
as for fitting , most garages will fit it but they wont be cheap , if i wasnt so busy i could have fitted it for you !

Ah thanks. i know what you mean about being busy tho.
Nice to see your from derby, i live in Oakwood so looms would be handy. So would i just ring them up and get them to find me one? How will i know if its any good tho?
Its a Mk6 van and i would be happiest with the easiest swap poss, maybe a Td although id rather get a Tdi.

yeah just give them a ring and they will take about a week to get it out , they dont keep parts on the shelf anymore , it will come with a warranty for about a month i think
they crop up on ebay quite often and dont fetch much
the TDI is just as easy to fit as the TD , the only difference in engines is the turbo , fuel pump and intercooler

if you have access to an engine crane you should be able to do it within a day
it took me 2 days to fit a TDI into my mk4 but loads of things had to be fabricated and i wasnt really rushing with it
if you can get hold of an early engine it wont have a PATS coded pump and all you will have to do it get a ignition live to the fuel shut off solinoid
if you get a later engine you have 2 options,
1. make sure you get the key , PATS unit and any relevant loom from the doner car and fit into yours , or
2. take off the fuel pump and cut away the shroud at the back that covers the fuel valve then snip the wires and re-wire onto a ignition live
i chose the latter with mine as the belts were being replaced anyway so its not much more of a job to take the pump off

you want an early as possile escort engine (91-)
the mondeo engine is the same but you would have to sway around a few things on it , escort just makes life easier
the problem is finding a low milage 91 escort engine is going to be difficult , i was you i would look for a low milage later engine and while the engine is out replace the belt and re-wire the fuel shut off

Ahhh rite i see,
Good advice and thankyou. I shall start searching for a decent newer engine then.
As you say, a decent 91 engine is going to be very difficult to find.
So just to clarify,im looking for a 1.8 endura Tdi engine out of an escort, so roughly about an R reg ?
Cheers

that's going to be the easiest
you will find there is a lot in the scrappys with snapped cambelts as people dont think they need to do them so for the sake of £60 replace the belts and tensioners as its very easy while the engine is out

I believe it's a mark 6 on a T plate, if the indicators on the front are clear (not orange) then its a mark 6. The standard TD that was put in vans makes 75bhp and the TDI from other cars made 90bhp. With the non turbo making 60 it doesn't seem worth the trouble of swapping it for the TD, only a 15bhp gain.
The TDI is much more tunable too as it has a bigger turbo and fuel pump, people do get 170bhp out of them!! although 150 isn't too hard to achieve if you use a FMIC. Having the intercooler above the exhaust and turbo isn't very clever
