Puma Rally car
I have been offered a very cheap puma 1.7 that i want to make into a rally car, does anyone know anyone who has done this?
Does anyone have any information on places to source puma rally parts?
Will any 2l 16v engines drop onto the same mounts as the 1.7 as i need about 200bhp to be competative......
Thanks in advance!

There is no such thing as a cheap rally car... you would need a roll cage welded in which isnt cheap to buy or fit really, fire extinguisher, decent suspension, decent rally tyres, and then engine wise nothing bolts straight in would all be expensive.
Best bet would be trying to get the standard 1.7 engine upto FRP spec, and maybe later on think about throttle bodies
I know were on a ford forum here but get a pug 205 gti great base for rallying,.. parts are cheap, there light and best handling hatch really ever.... you can pick up a 1.6 or a 1.9 for around 1.5k for a good un and cheaper if your great with a spanner...

ALL the puma rally cars were 1.6 not 1.7, and for good reason.
The 1.7 uses nikasil linings in the piston bore, where as the 1.6 uses far stronger and durable steel ones. Whilst the 1.7 is a very revvy engine and good for road use, it can't handle the constant loads and stress that the steel lined 1.6 can : especially when rallyed.
Most people that do a turbo's puma, will use a 1.6 as it's not as frail as the 1.7
