Difference between a GSXR Y and K1?

my mate has a k2 and the only diff between that and the k1 was a slightly different colour scheme and smaller mirrors over the k1. The last big change before that was the jump from crappy old carbs to injectors and that was like 97/98. Could be wrong though.

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
Wasn't the Y model a stop gap between the last of the W's, duck arsed with fi, and the latest K series. So the Y had the old fi engine from the W but the newer style bodywork from the K.
The K was a complete redesign wasn't it ??? new engine, frame etc etc etc......
Can't say for sure though.

hmmmmmmmm interesting.since posting ive heard theres no difference?its more of a naming issue cos its a 2000 bike then the k1 started in 01?
if thats true then the update 2 K2 was mirrors etc then did K3 have the black frame?
anyone know if there are engine differences? was the WW the first fuel injection model yeah?wonderin whats changed since then

FI was first introducted in the GSXR range in about 1998 IIRC.
Have a look here at the bikes for sale. Near to the bottom of the page there are several GSXR750s for sale and it gives you some idea of the models and what they were.

The Y model was a W-Y so I guess it was mostly the same as the W-W but with new bodywork.
