As above. After going to a few shows i want to start collecting few.
Been looking on ebay and theres thousands so where do i start??

Looking at collecting the minichamps as they seem the most popular and easiest to collect.

Very expensive these days to collect diecast model cars, especially 1:18.
1:43 is cheaper but even they are rising in price too.
I am lucky I have an understanding wife that allows me to collect them, but then I do keep them in my office in cabinets.
Last valuation was £25000, but there have been many additions since then.
When I first started MK1 and MK2 Escorts were £20 - £25 each, now any new ones are at least £50 due to rising costs

I look as hobbys like this as money in the bank. I collect dvds have nearly 1000 and i don't look at it as money gone as if i sold them id get at least a grand back.

Whats the best to collect 1:18 or 1:43 or does it matter...

I wouldnt go mad maybe 1 or 2 now and then but jist wondering what make etc to collect so if i did want to sell them im not completly wasting my money lol

I collect 1/43. Have a load of sierras, and they seem to have a great variety to choose from, although, prices are rising, but I prefer buying 3 1/43 models off ebay, to a mk2 escort in 1/18 scale... but that is my preference.

its a good idea to but they as soon as they are released, otherwise youll end up regretting it when the manufacturer sells out and prices rise

there was a statement released by a company that makes high quality models cant remember who it was might have been autoart, saying that the detail and price of models were going up as there are less and less people getting into collecting "toy" cars as electronic devices are being introduced to youngsters and its mainly the older generation who collect the models instead of playing with them, so they make the models as detailed and high quality as possible to get sales and as there arnt many sold (allot of companys do runs of say 1000 or so now) the prices are higher so that it is still profitable to make the models as their target audience is people who have time to enjoy the hobby of collecting the models and not people who spend all day sat on facebook

Toy and train fairs can be a good place to pick up bargains, ive had most of mine from there, got a mix of 1/43 and 1/18. Corgi's vangaurds are a nice model for the money too. If you are going to collect the more expensive stuff a display cabinet is a good idea to keep the dust to a minimum, its easy to break small bits off whilst dusting and difficult to glue them back a lot of the time. I use an old 1 1/2" paint brush for carefully dusting them.
