Default Cat D question?

Last July i got knocked off my bike. It was wrote off as a cat d. I was paid for the bike and i bought it back and repaired it.

The claim is still ongoing though due to my injuries.

I have just HPI'd the bike again today and it is still coming as a clear. Not wrote off etc.

Will it only be put on the register once the claim is fully settled?

I wouldnt say the personal injury claim has anything to do with the salvage catergory so can only assume you got lucky and someone forgot to put it on the register. Well done lol

After an accident and you buy it back they ask for copy of your log book so they can update it with dvla if you dont give it to them all seems good

If you are thinking of fixing up quick and selling on before it's put on the register then I wouldn't as it will come back and bite you on the arse!

Hi CraigJ,

Sorry to hear that you had been knocked off your bike, never a good experience. But hopefully you're on the mend and have been back on bikes since.

This should be added to the register once the Insurer had paid you for the vehicle, as they usually send the paperwork to DVLA in relation to the vehicle being a total loss.

The vehicle aspect (ie. repair/total loss) will usually be treated separately from the injury, but it is feasible that they may have left this outstanding pending the settlement of the whole claim.

Kind regards

Tony

Thanks for the info.

I will be MOT'ing the bike this week so its ready to be sold.
It will be priced accordingly and will be described as damaged repaired, CAT d etc.

I can just see this giving me a grief though as it will be advertised as cat d but if a buyer hpi's it, it will come back as clear.

Hi Craig,

By advertising it as a Cat D you've covered yourself completely.

It would probably be worth keeping a copy of the advert (even a scan copy) to show you've advertised this correctly, just in case other future buyers come knocking.

Kind regards

Tony
