Get on some insurance comparison sites to give yourself an idea, doesn't take that long and once you're set up, you can basically type in number plate after number plate to get new quotes.

Before i bought a car i was looking at insurance quotes for corsa 1.4i sports, fiesta xr2's etc and they were Ł1600 to insure
my dads mate had a mk3 xr2i to get rid of so i had that becuase the insurance was low enough. 2 month later the insurance on it suddenely went up to Ł2000, then it went up to Ł2500, then Ł3000 etc etc
so i had to get rid of it and now im semi-restoring a mk1 fiesta 950 and thats still Ł2000 to insure on price comparison websites. insurance is a killer

thats what ive done, my mates pay immense insurance for some reason, Ł3000 on a 1.3 cdti corsa

buy my mk4g astra 1.7 DTi 16V - not the fastest thing on the planet but very cheap to run and insure as the car is only Insurance Group 4E

less than 300 quid a year for me - 34yrs old, 7yrs NCB, with points and a ban on my licence.

With all the hikes in insurance this year to have something even midly nippy is going to set you back a couple of grand on insurance.

Wasnt my first car strictly (got it before I was 18 though and had no NCB) but I had a 2.0 ESP Focus Zetec and cost less than Ł2.3k to insure with all mods declared (upto 150bhp). That was through Bell Direct and used them until I got my ST.
