How does it work????
Right, ive been looking at selling the focus and moving up to a cossy, i cant afford an Esocs yet so been looking at some Saphs, but.... looking into insurance......
I can get insured on a 1989 saph cossy for £3.5k completly standard - fully comp.
or..... i can get insured on a 2002 Focus, with a cossy lump in it RS body kit etc. for £1500 fully comp?
How is the focus cheaper when its worth more and has more mods? isit due to it being newer therefore safer?

remember that a highly modified cosworth converted car will be your baby and hence insurers will see it that way and history shows people who build thier own car look after it better and hence lower risk (hence dirt cheap kit car insurance) so in reality its not surprising a similar spec focos is cheaper than a old saph.

In motorcar insurance, the older version is already high risk and the new one is still in A1 condition. The more the the high is the risk the greater is the value of the coverage and the lesser the risk the better the price it is.
So basically your perception is somewhat related to the truth of the fact.

I think notoriety can play a part in insurance.
However, there seems to be no ryhme or reason to insurance. They seem to just pluck figures out of thin air. My old insurance company wanted an extra £2000 once I had modified my Escort during its rebuild. Yet the company I am with now quoted me less than when my car was std with the previous insurer.
I think It is a case of just shoppping around. The insurer I use at the moment is the only one that classed me as an "enthusiast" as I have had my RST for 4 years. This dropped the insurance plenty.
