Default Traders policy without being a trader?

is there a policy out there that lets you drive any car like a traders policy but without having to be a trader?

i had to prove that my trade was within the motor trade which the insurer wanted to see everything inc vat records the lot just to prove to them.
don't know if its the same for other trade policys but i can only take a car from one place to the other with no stopping in between including petrol stops! i've got so many conditions it unreal but does come in useful.

If yours is like mine then you can't be covered for the car been stolen if you stopped for petrol say, But your insurance is still in place whenever your actually driving.

If you are over 25 and you insure your car fully comp, most insurance companys allow you to drive any other car third party. You may not even know they have provided this as it just appears on your certificate. However if you are connected to the motor trade they automatically take this away from you.
Trade insurance is avalible for young drivers usually from 21-
Pricey though and you do need to be a business.
Insurance brokers are your best bet, they can usually help if they can get a sale out of it.

dont forget that the cars you drive covered 3rd party by your insurance, MUST be covered by a separate FULLY COMP insurance AND you MUST have the permision of the vehicles owner to drive it beforehand, otherwise your 3rd party is NOT VALID thus meaning you cant just drive any car with your 3rd party cover, it will be as good as driving with no insurance. and the cops KNOW this information, so no easy get away if you get pulled

Tradex told me they wouldnt allow a cosworth on my list of private use cars, but they dont specify any restriction on modified cars, so my 3 door is fine as its technically a modified base model, even though other than the chassis number no one would ever be able to tell it wasnt a cosworth, so that worked out nicely

Mine is just a part time policy though, not a full trade policy, for people who have a fulltime job but then in some way are in the motortrade through a second job or as a hobby job

thats what they said to me and im over 25, the one im with currently is tradewise, insure anything apart from jap imports and motorcycles only because i opted out of those cause i dont use em, were insured on anything we have the keys/driving/in trust of fully comp, there 3 of us on it and its Ł1500 a year, got 4 motors added to it and it never goes up if you add cars only drivers, also give you a excess thing, you get 3 a year, if you stuff it you can use this thing so you dont have to pay the excess

cant coplain at all really best insurance i had ever, though i havent had to claim yet and that might be a different story lol

i used quote me today, part time trader, mostly mechanical work.
had a crash last year, my fault, had 7 years no claims before the crash and now is costing me Ł1200 a year, bad insurance area sadly, but that covers me fully comp on four of my own vehicles and any others not owned by me.
this also covers the misses to drive anything too.
it was cheaper to do this than seperate policies, that actually don't cover you to drive other cars as such, as driving another car is only a temporary situation, not so you can drive another car all the time, times of neccesity only.

Ive got a homefleet policy with tradex, u can put 5 cars on it fully-comp, and drive anything else third-party. But as mentioned u must be 25 n over.
Dont know bout putting cosworths on the policy, but ive got my s1 and gsxr600 on it no probs, and other various cars.

I have a traders policy with Roadrunner,im full time employed mechanic and part time mechanic working for myself at nights, have a 3rd party policy with my dad as a named driver, can drive anything anytime and covers all my own vehicles for Ł300!! Have had some quotes that wanted proof that i was a trader and employed my dad,and that he had seperate insurance for his van,but most dont bother.Policies are available for anybody,be it part time or full time, and with or without premesis.

Check out the Autotrader as they have heaps of companies in the back of it,try them.

I did have a policy with tradex years ago but found them to be the dearest now.

Forget the company im with just now, have a traders policy thats fully comp and only restrictions are that the max value of car i am insured to drive is 20k.

Costs just under 600 quid a year for me and the wife.

Was never asked for proof of being a trader etc, just said i repaired other folks cars and needed insurance to cover me for any vehicle. Am covered for bikes as well so find it a huge saving now as used to have 3 policies on the go at the one time, mine, my wife's and then another one for my bike !

i think we've got the best deal of all tbh, Any director/partner of company can drive any car at anytime fully comp, no limit to value. Plus a couple named drivers (employees) on certain cars, and we've got two companys named on it too. There is only me and my dad that actaully work in the business full time. Mum does paper work and few adverts. And sister is named, but doesnt work for us.

Costs a smidge over 2k a year i believe. Also gives cover for any person driving a vehicle we own or in our care fully comp with permission from any director/partner/member of staff named.

My gran is on it too.
