Default insurance question

ive been playing around on confused.com seeing what i can afford to insure as im only 17. got a quote on a mk 5 fiesta for £750 with me still as a provisional driver. is there a way to know what it will be like when i pass as people ive spoken to say it goes up between 30 and 100 quid on there corsas saxo's etc ive done a confused search saying i was a full uk license holder but everything else the same and its gone up to £1300 that cant be right surely its almost doubled any ideas or have i just got to wait until i pass and ring the insurance company?

I suppose if you're a provisional licence holder you've got to have an experienced driver with you at all times and so you should be safer. When you've got your license you're out on your own racing everything in sight.

£1300 for a mk5 Fiesta when your're 17 sounds about right. I would def speak to Adrian Flux or similar as a specialist will give a better quote for someone high risk like yourself.

you can also try setting up a policy as the main driver, but add a parent to it, this can sometimes lower the premium with certain insurers.

Use the comparision site to gauge who is doing what then try call round and seeing what quotes you get back.

Look at what con lower the insurance for you, garaged, alarmed, limited miles, higher excess.

If you can hold a conversation, speak to the insurance firms, see how you can lower the policy.

Also, if you have a little banger as a first car, then try third party insuance, rather than third party fire and theft or fully comp, if they still do this.

Whatever you do it will be expensive for the first couple of years.

I'm 20 and i have done quotes online via gocompare.com on a 1.6 vts saxo and on a 1.8 ford escot gti with one years no claims bonus third party fire and theft and the gti worked out a cheaper by a couple of hundred pounds.

The insurance companies do ovbiously blacklist some cars against common boy racer ones ie. saxo vts. Your first few years insurance will be a mug off. The lower the litre and older the car the better.
