Personally I would change it as the fuel pressure will be low on boost if the seal has failed.

Your welcome.
You could risk just sealing it up, but if it ever fails flat out you could lose an engine. Fuel pressure is not something I will ever take risks with personally.

Hmm, this is where your problems arise.
The fact the reg was tampered with suggests you may be running non standard fuel pressure. If thats the case, running standard pressure with a nice new reg is going to leave your fueling either rich or lean, and theres no way to find out bar testing it.

I might be speaking out of turn but to save heartache, I'd suggest taking it to an expert for a setup with a new regulator.

There is a tiny amount of suction felt here when the plug is removed, via the threads, but is seriously small

It's so miniscule, I didn't bother doing anything with mine, was mapped like that perfectly too, if I plugged the hole now the change would be too small to detect.
The std pressure eg has TWO diaphragms inside, both connected in thier respective centres to the pintle(valve), amazing what can be charged for such a simple to make device.

With respect, it is VERY unprofessional to map a car knowing you have a fault with a critical component.
It could fail a fraction more and lean of the AFR without you knowing until you have molten alloy in the sump !

A small leak at idle giving a small effect has a larger effect on boost as the regulator is a multiplier device.

You always seemed switched on to me which makes it even more surprising that you think its ok to run the car like this !

Yes it is a simple device but it is not something you could make yourself for the same amount of money/quality/time you would buy it for.
Lets not forget, it is a piece of precision engineering that is tested and calibrated.
