Just thinking mate i have never in my life seen a car that needs all 4 sensors at the same time , if its showing a fault for the 4 i would get it checked out possibly asc control unit or wiring fault we have had a few E39's with similar faults changing the sensor didnt solve the problem

Car has not been tested yet to determine what sensor is at fault. Abs light is on at the moment. Have heard the front sensors may be side specific is that correct.

get the codes read to identify exactly which sensor it is (if it is a sensor) as carlo says 4 wont be faulty at once.

At the moment the car has the abs and dsc lights showing on the dash. It had disapeared for a spell but came back on again and hasnt went off since. The speedo still works, the owner hasnt tried the cruise control. He has read on another forum that the other rear sensor failing would stop the cruise from working, although neither he or I know if that is the case.
thanks for the help guys, much apreciated
