FAO those running SECS S8 ECU's or any DIY
mappers/ tweakers
What operating system and type of serial port do you use ie, propper serial or USB/ Cardbus adaptors.
Im running XP and a USB to serial adaptor. Getting all sorts of errors whilst connected to the ECU or should I say when it wants to connect.
thinking of running dual operating systems (XP & 98) and getting a PCMCIA serial card.
Any help really appreciated
Cheers Brian

capri-rs,
I wrote the original program many years ago BEFORE USB was invented.
(1993-1994 to be exact)
I have written a new program using XP and USB which works very well
and has been pre tested here by a few S8 users.
Unfortunately, software writing is not a 5 minute job and I will only
release the software once I am 100% happy with it.
the original,
There are a couple of things happening but I have had to postpone them
for a month or so as my new full time job is very demanding at the
moment as it is contract work that will end within the next few weeks.
The main things are the updated S8 software, and a new ECU monitor.

space hoppers,
Hi James. Yep, still doing that work - Only 2 weeks left
Not really missing the cossie YET as I had it for 8 years.
Its so nice getting in a newer car (diesel dog
) and not being
deafened or being raped by the petrol companies.
I am sure, the call of Ford and the YB will be strong again one day

Going to take a month off to attend to a few outstanding jobs then go
back to contracting ....
...... probally unless I get a better offer
*Bri.4.b.Cos*
I will email you a TEST version when I am next at my own computer.
capri-rs,
Best speak to your ECU manfacturer as they will be able to advise you
the best.
From my experience, the problems are 90% down to the application
software and NOT the USB interface but the manufacturers wont always
admit that !

if done correctly it will bring up a boot screen where you can choose COMMAND PROMPT only..
S8 doesnt like XP.. it predates XP
Or go to http://www.bootdisk.com
And just download a bootdisk from windows 98 ..
place the S8 software on the C: drive and boot with the created floppy
and run S8 software.. no problem at all.
However I have it running under XP...
Used my resource kit utilities to apply xp settings to S8..
and changed some Fifo settings for the serial port
good luck
