i have just read on another thread about what happened to ian@raceteks engine and i cant quite believe what i read.
he pays a tuner a fortune to build and map an engine for him and it goes bang on the test drive
then he has to pay towards rebuilding it again when it wasnt his fault.
and if that isnt bad enough it goes bang again and the tuner wont put it right without him paying again.
questions
1 how is he still in business?
2 why entrust the building of a high spec engine to someone with no track record of such work when there is no shortage of reputable companies such as msd, karl, mad, reyland harvey etc ?
3 why even pay for the initial work after it went wrong on the test drive surely that should have been a clue he wasnt up to the job?
what are peoples thoughts on this situation, would you have been happy with the results.

1- no idea
2- He had a big rep in motorsport before he started up engine advantages mate, just never did road cars, hes been in the top level of world class motorsport for years.
3- blew a head gasket on test drive, "could" of just been bad luck, was fixed, couldnt predict the future, and didnt know the dertails of the rest of the "work". And Ians far too nice to people sometimes too!

From what i can see that he did, he just SERIOUSLY rushed the car, the way he mounted the wastegate was a joke (hence the unlimited boost), and hence NO WAY was it live mapped properly, so the RR readout i reckon is utter tripe, and it also explains why it blew sky high, twice.
But without seing the engine map, and looking at the engine internals, itd all be pure speculation on why it blew, im sure Harvey Gibbs knows now.
What i can be 100% of is that the external wastegate mounting was a joke and explains why the boost couldnt be regulated at all

he mapped a car for someone i know on greys with anti lag its never run right since plus everytime he starts it he has to lift the bonnet and disconnect the idle speed control valve or it will just rev to about 3k. im,e surprised he hasnt worn the fookin bonnet hinges out by now.

It depends on the full details of what happened on whether he can sue or not. The law says the good/services you buy must be fit for the purpose they where intended. It does not matter if you want to run at 2 bar or 20bar boost as long as you inform the person at the time of purchase. Ie tell them this is what you want and they then spec your car to this spec, now if they just build u an engine and your turbo blows or fuel system packs in then they are not liable.
So say tuner x fits a sparkplug and correctly torques it and up and upon a high boost run the plug falls apart and destroys the engine then as long as he used the correct application of sparkplug for the required task then he could not reasonably forsee the plug would fail causing damage to the engine. He is not liable, the manufacturer of the plug could be sued.
This is just to give you an insight and there is more indepth reading knowledge required to these cases.

Wonder how long this thread lasts without descending into total drivel.........
I've no experience of Paul's work, so wont comment, but stuff I've seen and heard has done him no favours.

think it wa cause he recomended him he dont need air to air and thats what the surge issue was
i had my old engines head fitted and cam timed up, the only issue i had was he made me book it in and he needed ot for a extra 2 months and charged me £130 extra on the quote for cleaning the block deck
but i must admit hes a nice guy

was trying to be subtle and say the rollers are a bit off , thats all, but all rollers are tbh , and i think with a 500 cooler and could hold 25psi with your spec mate

15K+ Super Poster!!
I'm here did you miss me Doug
abdr500 that 360 @ 1.5 bar would be 330 on anyone elses rollers fella which would be the v.max you would be getting at that boost with your spec!
My car made 485.5hp on those very same rollers on 4 greys but it wasn't over 450 anywhere else

Having seen the pictures, read the spec sheets, read the itemised bills, and Having been dealing with Ian for the last 3 years, I can quite happily say he was done like a kipper The wastegate mounting was an absolute joke, anyone who knows ANYTHING about turbos and engines would have realized that it was 100% wrong, it beggers belive that someone who is supposedly so shit hot and experienced could fuck up soooo badly on such a simple task? loads of cars use external wastegates, he must have known they mount off the exhasut, not some poxy 1/2" thick EGR pipe??? And the amount he charged Ian is ridiculous as well, I will let Ian put up what he was charged but it is verging on criminal
All I can say is he should be ashamed of his service, Ian pointed EVERYONE who needed a car mapping towards engine advantages, my mate spent £600+ there getting his sapphire mapped, and that was just on greens, and at least 3 of my friends an me were going to use him to sort thier cars out, but having seen the customer service and extortionate prices we will be taking our buisness elsewhere. I am not just jumping on a bandwagon here either, I have spoken to Ian in depth about this and it is criminal what has happened to him

i agree mike he needs to do something with it, but the point is if you took your car for a conversion you would expect it to work properly.
could you in your wildest imagination expect any of the tuners i listed above turning anything as shoddy as this out.

Having had work done by Paul myself I can say nothing bad about him whats so ever! He helped me ot lots! as did Ian from racetek who put me in contact with Paul even b4 EA was up & running! Paul knew I didnt have booodals of cash so didnt charge me the earth! when my car did melt a piston(my fault ) he did a full re-set up for fook all!
My car after had no probs what so ever & is still goin strong! The car was fookin awesome for a standard basically standard engine!
