Default Focus RS : Boost Solenoid : Anyone sell an upgrade ?

Can someone explain what it is and does is it like an amal valve Is it a Ford part or 3rd party ie webber ? and do they make an uprated one as this seems to cause alot of issues with peeps and missfires at 5k when running Bluefin map and boost levels

Another way to cure it is something called a boost controller but can you not just by an upgrade to the normal electronic boost controller

all very confusing

I don't really know Kev, as this is my first turbo car and I don't 100% understand how everything works. I think the principle is the same as an amal valve. With it being a solenoid I pressume it's an electrically operated valve to control boost. Basically, it's small and rubbish and an uprated one will be much more reliable. I do occasionally get boost probs, did it tonight slightly, haven't had the car out for a good few weeks but it has been running fine for alot of months upto now. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a Bosch item or similar, don't know really though!

If I was certain it would cure the problem, I would go for the Apexi boost controller. My rear bumper is getting scorched from where it misses and backfires at 4-5k!

Wouldn't think that would be a boost solenoid problem mate? Have you tried better plugs?! The boost problem is more of a smooth wavering.

i would be very surprised if it was the valve causing the mis/backfire, it may be overboosting or an ignition misfire, the valve is only a solenoid, its duty cycle is varied by the ecu to control the boost pressure, it does this by "bleeding off" varying amounts of air, get the car to a chassis dyno, they should be able to find the fault with your vehicle

Its always been there through three sets of leads and two sets of plugs, before it was Bluefinned and after. Its only a momentary missfire but when you are caning it in the higher gears, you get a backfire which I reckon is a flame out. The bumper is scorched directly above the exhaust and all around the wax has turned white and gone lumpy.

Not good. Touch wood, mines NEVER missed a beat, still on original plugs and leads, the only prob I've had is the occasional (4-5 times in 2 years) boost prob, which should be sorted by a Blitz controller soon.

dont you think all these probs could just be the base map ie AF

as i said my misfire was in 3rd @ 5 k and it just backfired no boost change and carried on going
