escort lux or impreza P1?
seriously thinking of buying a new car. well in fact i am.
i have a bit of a dilema.
what would you guys rather?
drive an 11 year old toyota carina everyday ( well it is a gti! ) and have sitting in the garage for the weekends a lovely low mileage imperial blue escos with loads of mods, or would you give it all up to drive a low mileage ( 30k ) impreza P1 everyday?
don't know what to do!
Going to look at the P1 in a few hours time. fed up of driving an old car though!!!!!!
what would you guys do???

Difficult - as the P1 is the best Imprezza ever IMO. Very light, perfect handling balance and in WR format (big brakes etc), quite a good track weapon. As ever with Scoobies, it's only weakness is the engine, which are fragile and need huge amounts spent on them to get releable power, as they need the standard items replacing, where the Cossie doesn't.
At the end of the day, you need to drive both and see whichever one floats your boat.

I'd go for an Escos anyday over a P1 but as they are getting older and rarer it's hard to find a good cossie. Why don't you think about an Evo VII - you can pick up a low mileage one for well under £15k, even an Evo VIII for around £15k or slightly over and the engine & build quality are far better than Scoobs.
For around £600 you can Ecutek an Evo and get an extra 60-70bhp from a standard engine without changing anything.
A lot of people with scoobs feel that it's an upgrade to go to an Evo.

15K on an evo8 and what do you reckon it will be worth in 3 years?

But what would a P1 be worth going by today's spiralling depreciation of them?

The market has been flooded with so many Scoob models and there's so many for sale, because of new models coming out. Just take a took on Autotrader and/or ScoobyNet. So if you need to sell one, you have to price it realistically at a low price to get rid, as there's plenty more of them for sale.
P1 prices advertised on AutoTrader today vary from £10,250 to £17,995 and they are only X or Y reg. There's 37 of them for sale just on there out of 1000 manufactured of them.

I know I'd rather buy a very low mileage, 1 owner 2003 Evo for a lot less than some of the prices that P1s are advertised at and get a lot more for my money. But there again, I do love cossies.
I was just making the suggestion that a newer Evo is far better value for money at the moment than a P1.

Buy a 15K p1 now and in 3 years will probably still be worth 14K
Buy a 15K evo 8 now and in 3 years it will probably be worth 10K
So its going to cost 5 times as much money for the evo as the P1
Well thats my way of looking at it anyway.

Ive had an EVO, and a 22b, now got a 3 door, which i prefer out of all, lost thousands on both of the jap cars dont get me wrong fantastic cars, but the 3 door is more raw which i like.
As for your question, why dont you test drive both and see how you feel about them, if i had a low milage escos, i wouldn`t want to use it everyday, where as the P1, i think is more useable.

My old man had A P1 for four year's never missed a beat... The car was spot on never had any think go wrong with it. The power is so impressive and the way it gets down to work and just get on with it is even more amazing never once in four hard years did it even make a hint it was going to go wrong. The way the thing goes round corners, straight line speed what ever you throw at the car it is just 100% perfect…
People always say EVO’S are better …. BALL SHIT
The thing you got to remember is its Japanese so the interior is shit the seats are nice but still they wear quite easy O and they rattle like a bitch…
I am a massive ford fan but you would need some serious Cossie to compare it with a P1
The value of a good P1 will always stay high it’s like the 22B and things like that, A good Cossie will always hold it’s value and I think there is a bigger market for the Cossie.
At the end of the day you need to drive both of them and really think about what you want… I have always wanted a P1 and a Cossie but when it came to the crunch I brought a Focus Rs.
