just go and drive a p1,then an escos and see which you like best! get insurance quotes,rebuild prices,costs of usual wearable parts (brakes,etc....) see which you can budget for better and make a decision from there. i dont like scoobies at all,BUT a p1 looks right,only one id think of really.

To answer his question... there's no comparison, as an Escos as described above would win hands down over a P1 as a car to own, that's why I suggested, IMO, a better & newer alternative than a P1, namely an Evo as seand also said he was 'fed up of driving an old car though'

hi all,
back now. was away all morning looking at the p1. what a car. completely standard with 32k on the clock and has alot of extras. prodrive mats / spotlamp covers etc. has not got the bigger brakes though.
somebody mentioned sell the carina and buy a saph. the thing is i have a saph and want to sell it. i also have a lovely s2 which is being sold this week. the imperial blue escos in question is rs cos' which is in cars for sale. its lovely and i live beside him. see it plenty and closest car to it would be arty lofts old escos albeit the interior!
one more person going to look at p1 then he is going to see who pays the most for it! the thing is i need an every day car as i had the 2 rs' locked in my garage and not being used much. i have the saph 3 years and clocked up 832 miles in that time! i have the s2 over 2 years and didn't put up more than 1000 miles in that time, just taking it to shows, which by the way any time i go to always came back with top prize for mk4 escorts
will keep you guys posted about what i will do.

WR1 Scoobs which were £30k new 18-21 months ago can be picked up for less than 20k now and they are a better car than a P1 and less were made. Some dealers are only offering 18k p/ex when traded in.
Unfortunately, it's just the Subaru image at the moment that is making prices plummet and the mass influx of used scoobs for sale. According to this article on Pistonheads from Subaru marketing, there will be even more... which will make residuals even lower.

I have an Evo because its what i want, i am not bothered about depriciation as that would mean that you would never buy a performance car as there would always be a better valued car out there, but again t's all relative,
You might find prices stabalise abit on Evos what with the wait for the new 10's to come out

Mike, cant help but think that 10 revisions of the car doesnt help its value much.
An evo 6 sounds like an old car now we are on evo 9, but in reality is more or less a new car still by most peoples standards!

If you drive a P1 every day you will get some pose value out of it. It will be fun now and then but look at the negatives. You'll be paying a lot on insurance and petrol compared to the Carina.
Having really decent Escos tucked away will be very fulfilling. Bring it out when you want to have fun, roll it out of the garage for a bufty. You can work on it without needing to get into work.
For me it would be a no-brainer.

totally agree with you there. I 'used' to drive a 1.4lx escort everyday, and prior to that a 1.4lsi astra for work. But due to unforeseen circumstances out of my control, i have been forced (lol) to use Colas Escos everyday for the past couple of months, and as chip says, it does take away the thrill of it if you use it everyday. Will be back to using the old shitter soon though
