Emergency Tax - When do you get it back?
Right, I've been getting emergency taxed since I started my job back in September.
I've been very lazy and only just sent off the P45 friom my last post
When will I get it back? Is it whenever they want or is it likely to be April?
Ta

I want a Cheque dammit! That would really change the picture for me as far as the ring trip goes. Suddenly I would have some borrowing power with my mother and could take a hefty wad of spends!

You get the full whack back as a refund in PAYE anyway, if any is due. Being on emergency code only means you are deducted tax on a Wk 1 basis instead of culminative and the emergency code no. is the same as would be for your tax code as a single person. So don't raise your hopes too high.

Thing about the tax office I can't stand is the fact that they are quick to charge interest on any cash you owe them, and then when they owe you cash, it can take 10's of months .

Just been meaning to send off the P45 since Dec, but kept either forgetting or not having time.

Also, let me add, I was unemployed for absolutely ages and the last job I did before this was just a 2 week temp assignment to pay some bills. I wasn't claiming benefits as I don't believe in it anymore.
Hopefully that will mean some payout for me
I seem to be getting about £200 a month less than I should be and it's crippling me.

I didn't get a P45 til the start of December! I didn't realise that I would go onto emergency tax because of not sending one in. Yes maybe I should have known, but at the end of the day, I didn't!
So stop bullying me you twat!

But you must realise come 6th April this year, you will be paying tax from month one onwards, which will be the same amount you have been paying per month on emergency tax as the codes are the same. So you'll be back being 'crippled' again for future wages from that date.

If you are paying emergency tax, the code number is the same as normal. There's no difference in the amount of tax you pay, whether on a Month 1 basis or accumulative, unless they are taxing you at the higher rate @ 40%.

Morning Lynn
I just rejoined my old company after leaving them for a few months
Now being a wonderful company they put me back to "trial" money to see if I was up to the job
That was back in August, so since then I didnt really know what I should be expecting in tax deductions (and to be honest wasnt too concerned as was kept being promised the raise back up to my full ammount), come Decembers pay packet I found I had said rise BUT my takke home was £100 less than it used to be, and the actuall base earnings has infact gone up because they had had a raise in my absense
When I queeried it they asked if my wage slip had B1 I think it was next to the tax code, which it did so they said that yep i was on emergency tax and that I should give them my P45 so they could sort it out
Only trouble was as I told them, I had already given it to them (which I had on the day I started ), just to be told oh well must be OUR fault weve lost it and I would have to come in on a daytime ( I work nights) to fill a form in, P46 I believe, so I did filled it in in front of head of HR who then sticks it in an envelope to send to head office but promptly addresses it back to the factory , I obviously corrected him, but dunno what chances Ive got of getting it sorted with him being the head of the team
Anyway same question I guess really, I have had this months pay and tax now looks ok (bit hard to tell because there was a big chunk of OT on it as well) but if they now got code right etc, and I was roughly £100 down on the month where I had the comparison to make, to me that about 5-6 months at "about" £100 per month difference, so would I be right in thinking they owe me about £5-600, and if so how long before i can think of spending it
