PC fans used as a car radiator fan?
I made this using 4 x 120mm fans.

These fans are made for use in computers. The advantage I can see are the slim design of the fan just over 20mm this makes them easy to fit in between an intercooler and a radiator.
Has anyone tried this before?

Looks like the same sort of thing I want to try and do.

Tiff that is different.
I have the intercooler in that pic on my car now. It used 3 ducatti fans mounted in a sealed unit. It was very inefficient by nature - was good for most circumstances, but no good for sitting in traffic for long periods of time on hot days.

The problem u have is of airflow. What is the rating of those fans in CFM? when u drop in diameter, u drop the surface area, and hence the air flow by the square of the drip in diameter.
MY setup now uses a number of 120mm fans, but they are expensive they are the most powerful 12v 120mm fans in the world.

These kenlowe fans has anyone got any dimensions or info on the Output?
The fans I have used are YS-TECH 120 mm.
- Speed - 2800RPM
- Output - 125CFM
- Decibels - 40.5dBA
- Dimensions - 120x120x38
Thats 500 CFM.
You can get better fans eg Delta
- Speed - 4000RPM
- Output - 190 CFM
- Decibels - 59dBA
- Dimensions - 120x120x38
Thats a lot of air from 4 fans 760 CFM

A 12 inch fan gives 1000cfm - that is what the std one is. The 10in kenlowe/pacet etc give 750cfm. You have to use 2 10 in fans when using an interccoler. The std 1000 is ok without an intercooler to blow through. The twin 10's give 1400, just enough when u use a FMIC

Also, it's the delta's i use - Very good fans. But 4 isn't enough. I'm also using a 6in fan on the back of the rad. A fan that sucks is 20% more efficient than a fan that blows. To be fair, even this probably isnt enough for a 32 degree day in manchester centre, so i'm fitting a motorbike rad in tandom with the existing one, with a 6in fan strapped on it

Rick you need to get your car looked at then.
Thats Jimbo's old car- where they came from- No probs.
Tim then had em on his car and no probs and suprisingly enough when I had Tims old car they were absolutly fine.
Tim now uses 8 PC fans which is a 2x4 row.
Here is a pic of my old car before I had Tims car with 1 x 4 row of the same fans.
In traffic they were sufficient to cool the vehicle enough to cut out BUT I wouldn't like to bet my engine on just 1x4 row of fans as it took a while.
Tims 2x4 set was adequate to cool the car on track at Donno last year.
As with all the posts about pc style fans its important to remember they aint water proof.
Hope this helps,
Jake

Testing the future
you can't say that a fan flows x cfm if you don't say against what pressure
it's a piece of piss for a fan to flow x cfm when it's just stood in free air and there's no resistance against it. do you the think the same fan will be able to push or pull the same amount of air through an intercooler / radiator or whatever core?
