Rounded off Sump Plug
Mole Grips first. REALLY tight, as you will only get one chance.
Then, try knocking it round with a hammer and a small chisel. Hopefully if you put the chisel on the edge of the flange of the nut, it will bite in when you hit it.
Nightmare! Good luck!

When the sump nut rounded on my S1 I ran it for a little to get the oil hot enough, then used one of them reverse tap "easy out" thingies - piece of piss

i didn't want to admit it but ithink i was using the wrong type of socket!
Guzzler: I will give you a ring tomorrow as i need to book the car in for the clutch!

How I used to do it....
Discover the sump plug is rounded,
Use a good 6 sided shallow socket and make sure it's on the plug fully.
If that failed I'd try a 12 sided 1/2 inch socket followed by a 6 sided 1/2 inch socket hammered onto the plug.
If that failed, I'd use a good set of vise grips really tight.
Failing that it was the hammer and chisel.

They have a self tapping, revers thread on the end, so instead of winding it in clockwise (like you would to tighten) you wind it in anti clockwise. What you do is drill a hole in the bolt slightly smaller than the easy out (so there's enough meat left for the easy out to tap into) and then wind the easy-out in anticlockwise. Cos of the reverse thread it bites into the bolt and tightens inside it, lokcing it self in. Then you carry on "undoing" the easy out (turning anti clockwise) and it grips the nut and un-does it

Usefull of bolts and also for screws that have the slot/cross pattern stripped;
theres a socket that is designed for rounded off nuts,,,,,, it works a little like a wasy out, the ends taper in a anti clockwise direction and then it allows it to grip cause it gets smaller,,,,,,,,, but 6 sided sockets are a nust have tool and soo many people dont have em,,,,,, the 12 sided are just to make it easier to locate the tool on the nut
glad you sorted it anyway
