krakow ... now with some pics
well what a place ..
absolutely loved it .. definitely needed more time there ...
visited a few different places but the place that really put me in awe was St. Mary's Basilica now im not normally a religious person but it was absolutely stunning just can not express how impressive it is...
the trip that really threw me was the trip to Auschwitz 1 and Birkenau I have seen many pictures and video footage but to actually see and realize the scale of it all really makes you think ..
overall we needed at least a week just to see Krakow properly, the politeness of the Polish people and quality of food was just out of this world . My attempts to speak polish were quite good .. in the fact I got understood
the snow was excellent there was sooooo much of it .. think we stood out like tourists as we kept mucking about in it all the time so light fluffy tho snowed most of the time, infact it really made me wonder how such a supposedly advanced country England is how that much would have crippled the country .. the snow was in places about 2-3 inches higher than the train tracks and we still made it there and back the main roads were clear ..
not everyone speaks English so you will need a phrase book ..
so if you get the chance to go there do it .. its worth it so im planning a re visit didn't want to come back

Testing the future
would like to go somewhere in poland sometime, and i think krakow is as good as anywhere. saw it on a holiday programme years ago and it looked good.
never managed to drive there when i was living in germany, which is something i'm disappointed about.
if you've got any pics, bring em along to the next berks meet, i'd like to see and hear a bit about it

Cool, i deffinatley want to go to Poland some time looks a very cool place
When u say about the snow, most other people just get on with it, not like over here 1cm on the ground and the country grinds to a halt as everyone panics I want to do a full tour of Europe sometime
Would love to do Eastern countries too and would love to pop into Russia to see St Peterspurg, Moscow and Volograd

oh definitly worth going .. im even considering dropping track days this year to go back for a bit longer ...
i have relatives in wasaw probably looking to go there feb, march or april all dependant on my sister really ..
but i am going to go back to Auschwitz, i'm still sat here trying to work out my emotions ... unless you actually visit the place you really have no idea on the size or scale of what happened ..
we were shown round Birkenau by a very nice taxi driver who spoke good english he was born there and lived through the occupation as a child..
Deffo upset i could not get to meet you mate .. we had a look round the town but there is so much to see, a polish guide would have been briliant
hotel was really good as well .. was quite close to the centre had a market very close to it railway station was about 10 mins walk local corner shop .. piwo is very cheap and very good
the weather was a bit on the cold side .. ok bloody freeeeeezzzzzing on the first night we went out .. but nothing that we couldn't get round, had some georgian food then went to pizza dominium... not bad food really i was at the point of being full up (and for me thats rare ) cost Ł13 for the 2 of us and even managed to keep away from the Mc Donalds cheese burger cost 2zl (40 pence).
will get the woman to post up some pics later of the snow ...
god i want to play in the snow again

i been to aushwitz and the eary feeling of the place is just so immense, used to go to bergen belsen a lot too, nowhere near the size of the others but the same dank feeling whilst in the grounds, and very rarely any sign of nature ie birds and squirrels, they just seem to stay away from the place

The park you know is in place of city walls that were demolished by the Austrians in XIX century. I can see you lived in very good location is city centre proper. I hope you liked it
By the way - was there anything that was particularily bad or disliked by you?

Thanks mate
I will see when they are coming over next.
Be good to get a passenger ride in your car in some decent snowy conditions, not many people over here can drive that well in the snow as we dont see it very often!

I hope I can have it up and running for such occasion Even if I can't I can get a Scoobie for a ride for sure. In Kraków maybe even new STI test-drive car
I am nowhere near "very good" in snow though. I can cope with it, I can go sideways and make it very showy but I'm not fast. Or my car isn't as I got beaten by atmospheric Legacy on last event, and the guy isn't a driving god :-/ Well I suppose it may be fun on hot seat thogh. Al Bags liked it

hi
I see theres now a pic of me as I posted a pic of Pete..
Apart from flying which I do not like..
I loved everything about it ,cant say there was anything at all that disappointed me, I just miss the snow.
It does help to know a few basic polish words though and im glad we knew some. The hotel was literally 5 min walk from the center and ive recommended this hotel to all of my family as you cant get a better position and we looked at some of the others.
