I really want an escort cosworth
For a few years now i wanted an escort cosworth and now being in a position to afford one im scared shitless. Is running costs and problems bad as thier reputation? The major worry is i want an original, in good condition and history so where do i look for such an example? what sort of money do they typically fetch these days?
Are they as fast as old impreza's and evo's or is the escrt cosworth in original trim old hat now? who cares i still want one!

Never used the AA or RAC inspections before so i cant comment on that.
There have been some very nice ones on here in the past 6months so it might be worth looking and searching back through some of the threads

Over the weekend i saw a Escort Cosworth which im really tempted to buy its had 3 owners from new, the interior and body looks good too. Although i have some concern over the engine apparently its totally standard, when i turned it on white smoke/steam was coming out of the exhuast it was quite dense but it lightened up as the temp increased but still noticable. On the test drive it went well, tight, no obvious sign of problems but when booting it in any gear/speed there was a trail of black smoke bellowing out. Is this normal or could this be a tell tell sign that something wrong or about to go wrong?

Was it smoke or steam ??? All cossie's produce the normal White Steam Vapour when you start them.
It should clear once warmed up, but if its smoke then does not sound good.
Black smoke usually means over fuelling, so thats ok..
Al.........

Im heart broken, the AA come out simply told me its as straight as Dale Winton. The history showed it been in a crash 5 yr ago and should have been a right off with the chassis bent from a side impact. Thats why the body and interior was mint someone patched it up and painted it.
I dont know if to buy or walk away loosing £250 deposit i put down, the AA guy said it should have been a write off but it actually never got written off in paper terms, it goes ok minus the smoke from a suspected piston ring problem should i go ahead or cut my losses?
