Sent the old saff in to have its pre war alarm uprated to a nice shiny new Clifford G5....
A couple of days later the car returns with some other little niggles fixed and a whole binliner full of old security and dead wiring
Got to love the Blackjax and intellistart system, properly cool and ive missed em since i had the last 2wd id had it installed on, nowt like waking up, firing up the car through the bedroom window and then having breakfast, ready to jump into a nice hot car, not to mention knowing if the battery ever starts to go flat IE. i leave the lights on) it will fire her up automatically and recharge it for me...
Thanks Stu.. 100% as always pal

I plan to get the latest Gadget, forget its name, but it interfaces your alarm and then sends an SMS update to your phone if its fooked with by scum
Example...
IMPACT
FULL ALARM
Etc Etc... should give some real peace of mind when you are forced to leave it, say, in a carpark at a show...
Uses the GSM network aparently and can double as a tracker for a few quid a year too

I've got one of those alarm systems with Blackjax and Intelistart on my Escort. I ended up reinstalling all mine myself though as the 'professional' who did mine made a right hash of it.
I've got my heated front and rear screens wired into mine (can be disabled by a toggle switch) and all the other gismos like headlamp activation to help find it in a busy car park at night. I used one of the spare channels to open the boot and another to close the roof! It even told me I had a slow puncture, whilst it was parked up in the garage for a week, the alarms digital mercury switch sensed the cars attitude slowly changing and set the alarm off thinking someone was jacking it slowly trying to steal one of the wheels!
Just a pity it's fitted to a mk3 Escort and not something a bit tastier. Still, I can always transfer it.

I'm thinking of changing my alarm system soon and going for the Clifford G5 with the Intellistart/Blackjax, but I'm sure I read on PF somewhere that your insurance is null and void if you have Intellistart.
Can anyone confirm this?

The system has safety systems inbuilt so if you do leave it in gear it wont start

does anyone have details of where to get the Cliffnet interface cable for earlier G4 systems (maybe the later ones are still the same?) or better still details of what is in the cable and make one

how does it know when you are in gear? often wondered this, the best i can come up with it detects how much current is being drained from the starter and determines whether it's trying to turn the box/prop/wheels byt the amount of current being drawn, which will obviously be higher if theres more stuff trying to be turned over.?

To engage the intellistart safely, the engine must be running when you exit the vehicle and arm the alarm system. Providing the alarm is not triggered or disarmed you can then press the remote start on the keyfob. If the car was not running upon exit, the alarm would "presume" it was in gear and therefore not start
