Have been thinking about getting one of the above recently but unsure which I should go for.

I travel to central london Mon - Fri and need something to kill the boredom factor. I listen to the radio on the way to work on the overground train.. but noly on underground for 10 mins so hasn't bothered me so far.

Like the idea of the PSP, downgrade to 1.5 with the sanyo screen and have a trouble free cheap mobile games solution, as well as MP3 player etc etc...

iPod would be nice for chilling with some mucis when on the train and at the gym.

What would you lot go for.. and not both at the moment..

i think so - im not really into em but my mates are.

one of them lucky fookers works for ferrari and they gave all their employees psp's for xmas

only 2.0 or below can be put back to 1.5 at present..

and id go for the psp can do a lot more than an ipod

Just checked and v2.01 won't downgrade..

v2.01 wont downgrade yet but that is in the process of getting cracked.

its only a matter of time.

Also with 1.5 - sony are being coonts and the newer games will have to have v2.0 or above to play.

unless you have one of the early jap psp's which have version 1.0 and that will play anything.

Will the early v1 play all games and movies then without any upgrades needed?

I think its a bit more 50 50 hence why people have both.

PSPs dont have hard drives. So if you want to watch videos or carry a resonable amount of MP3s with you, you will need to get a bigger memory card (around £70 for a 2GB card on ebay) or you have to buy UMD films - which you have to carry around with you!

PSPs are a great small unit for what they are, but the are far too big and delcate as an mp3 player in the gym!

re the v1.5 or even v1 idea. Great for homebrew. But they are missing some of the wireless functions (i think you can only connect over WEP with v1.5)

Also games like GTA have to be v2.0 or above, this is because v2.0 also contains a new mp3 (or it might be a video) codec that the game requires to play. There is no way you can play GTA on anything below v2.0 yet. I expect newer games will be like this too.

But they are bulky add so makes the PSP even bigger.

Sony are about to release 4gb and 8gb memory sticks later this year n e way.

I've got the Archos 402 that I use on the train.

Top bit of kit but the screen is a bit too small, the Av400 is better but tad bigger! M8 at work also has a 402 but is selling it to get an av400.

The Gadget show tested the Ipod, PSP and one of the Archos players and decided the PSP was best, especially for watching video.
