Default broken cossie diff - using granada/scorpio ones

broke my 2wd cossie diff in a big way. all gears are damaged beyond use.

as a replacement, i'm thinking of using a granada or scorpio diff without lsd, and welding it up for drifting. are they basically all the same size to fit the cossie beam, just with different ratios and the different size output flanges?

would any of these do (if i changed the output flanges and rear cover plate if necessary)?

thanks

Ive been using granada 7.5" LSD units for a few yrs now as they're in general cheaper to buy 2nd hand than the Cossie diff's. The only difference is the driveshaft flanges, being smaller than the cossie items...these are held in place by a large circlip on each sun gear...use two chunky flat blade screwdrivers to push them off each shaft and slide in your cossie flanges. They both have exactly the same ratios and same casing along with the same LSD....and as such fit in the 2wd beam exactly the same

thanks for the replies

so are all granada and scorpio diffs 7 1/2"? if so, then they all should fit in the 2wd cossie beam.

i definitely need a 7 1/2" up my rear end but it doesn't have to be LSD as i will weld it up. so any of those ones i've linked to will fit?

if u weld it up it will be shite 2 drive won't steer properly
reversing is a nightmare so won't be able to use everyday
ok if u oval racing tho

While we're on this topic of welding diffs, would there be any interest in a "spool" diff for the 7.5 inch Cossie unit?
A spool is simply a solid drum that the crownwheel bolts to, and has splines machined into it for the driveshaft flanges to engage on, so has no moving (breakable) internal gears.
It would only be any good for drag racing, oval, and maybe drifting.
Reason for asking is I know where there are some.....

i know a welded one will not be nice to drive everyday, but will be good for drifting, and i want to do a bit of that this year. can always change it again later, it's not the hardest job.

for details of welding, see

https://passionford.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=165764

what needs to be welded kindly provided by Itsmeagain. although i will have to be careful to be able to get the output shafts out again.

so i still need to know if all granada/scorpio diffs are 7 1/2"? they look like it from the pics, as the casing looks the same as mine with the solid mounting bar across the top at the front with 2 separate short bolts (the smaller 7" one has a hollow one like across the bottom with a long bolt that goes all the way through)

Bernie,

If you know of any 9" spools i'd be interested.

I have used spool diffs on gravel events many times with lots of success....prodrive used them up to 1998 in the rear of the impeza's....

gearboxman, yes, i would be interested in that, but obviously cost would be an issue. it doesn't cost a lot to just weld up the gears, although it's obviously not as strong.
