Default starter not turning... likely faults?

ok i got a starting problem thats got worse and worse over the past few weeks and now i'm getting pissed off with it... lol

turn key (imobiliser DISABLED) you hear a click and it sounds like the starter jobs a bit (i'm not 100% tho) and nothing. hold key and after a while the starter goes and she fires up first turn.

sometimes however i get nothing. i try starting it a few times and eventually she'll crank (once it cranks it starts immediately)

also rolling car about in gear seems to make no difference, so i think that eliminated the started getting stuck? (does it?)

so... what bits should i replace i have no problem with buying all new starter, wiring etc. etc. but i cant be arsed to book it into a garage

ok its got a BRAND NEW starter...

still does it

ive put a multimeter to the ignition barrel when its playing up (which is VERY diffucult with only 2 hands believe me!), and that bit's working fine. so its obviously something playing up between the ignition barrel and the starter motor.

it also SEEMS (i think) to only do it from warm.

it's only once done it to me with a cold start. normally its a case of a go for a drive, pull up at a petrol station then it wont re-start.

I'd double check all the wiring, esp as you say it's worse when it gets hot, electricity runs best along cold wiring, maybe one of the leads to the starter motor is perishing and not able to supply the juice it needs (as suggest by Andy earlier).

There's a push fit wire that goes on the starter solenoid. chop the puch fit off and put a ring terminal on and hold it in place with a nut. My push fit connection was mullered and the car had the symptoms you describe.

Same thing on my old RST as well. The push fit was on a thin green wire on mine, but it was actually the wire at fault in my case. A mentioned before check all wiring for continuiaty (spelling lol)
