New car dilemma - Focus ST or Golf R32
My mate is looking to buy a brand new car, he test drove the Focus ST and the Golf R32 today. He originally wanted the R32 but after the test drive I think he may be swaying in the direction of the Focus.
What one of the two would you choose and why?
Any certain things he should know about either model?
Or would you plump for a different new car altogether? Any suggestions welcome.

Tough one that
Golf will hold its money better i think
Focus is a better looking car
Golf will probably be better built
Focus will be cheaper to run
hhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
My money would go on the Focus i think.
He should go into BOTH the dealers and thrash out some shit hot deals.......then go from there

im gonna go against the grain totally and say buy a nissan 350z as theres some good deals about with them now or a mazda MPS,,,,,,,, just dont look at resale prices and be aware that all wheels have a 200 quid surcharge each when replacing em
seen lookers selling a new 350z for 21k today in there sale,,,,,,,,,,,, thats alot of car for that cash imo

well its a good idea though dont you think
its still against the grain too,,,,,,,,,, on another piece of wood
21k for a black 350z with the heated ( and fan assisted ) seats, rwd, bose stereo, looks like sex in metal form and,,,,,,,,,, well i love it
who would buy a ford ST built from a volvo parts bin
see ford are loosing money as even there own staff can see they aint like the old days,,,,,,,,,,,, they dont dominate the market as theres nicer stuf out there for beter prices

Agreed, for the money niether cars mentioned would be my choice, but its his, so hey.
Its built from the volvo parts bin just as much as a 350Z is built from the renault parts bin.

vauxhall are gonna do well i recon this year, they have stolen loads of ford commercial trade with there movano van,,,,,,,,, including BT vans which in all honesty we supply about 15k t 20k a month on panels for BT vans alone,,,,,, thats alot of money that ford have fucked in the long run
the vauxhall will prob out sell the focus too if i dare admit it and may hold there value more too
and cause of this reason im looking for a job at vauxhall as they hardly lost any cash lasy year ( all car companys are stuggling with sales btw )

I think the focus would be hard to beat for VFM and it's superb to drive on a daily basis and I honestly dont think the golf is THAT much better built. The golf GTi is one to consider as well.

my companys just gone back to transits cos movanos are fookin toss, by far the most unreliable vans we've ever run

cant comment o reliability BUT i can say the brakes are better in the movanos and also they are selling better hence the new transit coming out
my point was that the transit is what people call a van,,,,,,,, but the larger companys are going vauxhall,,,,,,,, not saying transits are crap as i drive em everyday just that ford are loosing there market they had such a strong grip of for years

Depends on what he wants.
The FRS is very much an enthusiasts car. Being that it was designed to be taken off the road and put straight onto a track and the engine has be designed to cope with tuning too.
As a day to day road car, its livable, but hardly refined, especially on some bumpy roads it gets really uncomfortable to drive.
The R32 is a good car IMO (raced one couple of nights back and its not slow either) and from what I hear is a much more livable day to day car.

Thanks for all the replies guys.
Out of the alternatives I'd go for the 350Z personally as I think it's a fantastic looking car, but my mate's really after a hatchback.
I think he'll probably go for the ST in black.

Strange thing to base your career choices on but each to their own.
Before you go jumping ship tho mate, you need to remember that General Motors are in massive trouble, possibly worse so than Ford. General Motors own Vauxhall, hence Vauxhall is in trouble.
You'd just be swapping one set of surroundings for another, while being in a pretty similar situation.

Well he bought neither in the end!
Instead he got an 04 plate M3 cabriolet! Not quite the same as an R32 or ST but a bloody nice car, and fast too!

for resale the Golf, built quality Ford is very good now I would say better than the Golf. For tuning the ST.
I have driven booth as I work for a newspaper and I nick the press cars.
My choice would be the Golf as I cannot stand FWD, but the St goes very well

R32 anyday of the week. I had one in work for 4 days and I must say I was fucking pissed off at how good it is! I'm not a golf fan by any means but I did like the look of it (was a gun metal one), although I think I prefer the ASBO in Orange, and the inside was PROPER plush, miles ahead of the new Focus. As for the drive alot faster than I wanted it to be and the handling/grip/brakes were fantastic. DSG box is good too, feels like an auto around town because it's soo smooth, which I didn't really like, but open her up and it's fantastic! Also sounded the fucking bollocks!!
