Mike, you also forgot to say that Kev can pedal it, he is an outstanding driver by all accounts

You can tell him there's only one god in driving and it's me, as witnessed by mrsFrog when I entered a corner a little too fast.

She said "Oh god", usually she says "Oh Greg", so I must be the one

EVO's are unfortunately in a different league to cossies when it comes to driving them anywhere but a straight line
Not really a fair statement IMO..

Your statement may apply to a stage 3 cossie vs std evo, but compare std for std and the Evo will wipe the floor with it in all areas. In know this thread was about stage 3 cos vs std evo but your statement appears to have an 'in general' sort of feel about it.

How about stage 3 cossie vs stage 3 Evo?

Simon,

Test drive the evo and have in your mind a reliable 350bhp will be very easy to get and they are nice and quick in a straight line then too.

I'd have the 4,500 miles service interval in mind (but then I use my cossie daily)

You better tell the editor of MaxPower that then......

In a MaxPower Supplement a few months back (about drifting), there was a write-up about Mr de Banke, calling him "The Driving God". ROFLOL

I kid you not.... and I NEVER told you!

BTW.... he showed me the article (well actually I think the Ford WRC Team presented it to him when he was out on stage ) ..... but for some reason he wouldnt let me keep it!

For the past 6 months I have been lucky enough to have both a stage 3 Escort Cossie big turbo and an EVO 8 FQ300 at the same time (Cossie now sold).

The Evo is from a different generation and will always leave the Cossie miles behind, both on twisty roads or up through the gears in a straight line.

But thats not a bad thing, after all the technology in the EVO is (at least) 10 years younger.

Previously I had a 3door stage 3 Cossie and an EVO VI RS2, and again the EVO was significantly quicker in all respects. Still love the old Cossies though, you don't get the same character in a Jap car.

Let us know what you think once you've driven one!

IMO They have no real character where as all cossies do! Althougth the evo is better for that than most characterless jap cars.

I have passed loads of Evos when I used to own an RST. Plus the RST had a better lap time of knockhill than I ever managed to achieve in my Evo.

However straightline speed is so irelevant.

Come out to the nurburgring and have a look at proper driving.

Doesnt that evo only have a top speed of around 145 anyway? Beating someone flat out in top gear isnt really all that impressive, the driver in the evo looks pretty sh** anyway.

Christans white rst off here would smoke an evo as it nearly does 170mph (pretty sure it will soon). An rst is never going to corner as fast as an evo. No matter how you look at it.

The one of christians car racing the black apt evo? yeah i've seen it. I was just using his car as an example as i don't know of any that are quicker.

Not seen one of anything out cornering an evo though.

Ah right, didnt realise you meant around the corners. There was a thread around talking about what happened at the end of the straight though.

Basky: My rst was a kinda homebuild project and not a VAST amount of money was spent on it. However to build something similar paying someone to do all the work would cost a reasonable penny.

I also made my rst be able to out corner an evo. However the rst was on full slicks and the evos were on road tyres. Not a fair comparison by any means! Also comparison of drivers and committment are very hard to do fairly.

Either way the two cars should not even be mentioned in the same sentence. RST old technology fwd fun. Evo... designed for rallying with a proper chasis reliability and a decent power train.
