Default Help with a focus

Is there any way that when an Alternater goes wrong it could affect the ECU on a Focus 1.6????

The alternator on my parents focus has gone wrong and the garage that is fixing it has turned round and said that the ecu has been damaged..

Now bearing in mind that this is a little village garage and he hasn't worked on a focus before, Is he chatting out his behind???

any advice before my parents get fleeced

Sounds like he is to be honest, Could he be after making a quick buck?

I all my years of owning focus (6 ) I have never heard this one.

The Alternator was still charging but at a much reduced rate.

Instead of being 20 it was charging at 12 ?? according to the AA

eh?

if it was charging over 14.4 then the alternator is buggered, if it was charging at 12v then i'd say it was a bit low, should be about 13-14v when running ideally.

if it was pushing out like 15v or above then yes it probably would blow the ecu.

might be best to get a uto-electrician to take a look if possible, say you'd like a second opinion or something.
