help, quick Q re: EBC brake discs, which way do I fit them??
hey everyone, just a quick one before I finish work (wahey )
which way do EBC brakes go, should the grooves go towards the front ovf the car or towards the back?
I cant remember which way round mine are at the mo, but last time my car was in at well Lane Turbo's they said they were fitted wrong
they said they're different to normal discs?
is this true?
cheeRS lads

EBC discs have a part number stamped on the outer edge.
The turbo groove ones have L/R part numbers - so I guess they're stamped L/R.

the Mintex 1144 are a damn good pad, it's the cr@p discs people use with them!!
I think if the grooves point forwards that the intention is for the groove to cut INTO the pad in aid for it to stop better??
The other alternative if for the grooves to point backwards so they just pass by in theory...
I would suggest phoning a well known and reputable disc/brake supplier to make you a set of discs you require, but use NEW pads with them...

I've had a a bad experience with EBC stuff on the front of mine, i had both the discs and the green pads. They warped to fuck and will never use ever again, i changed to red dot 6 grooves and mintex 1144's, best move i made, they're much better and they havent warped Personally i wouldn't fit them, get your money back if you can.

ebc reccomend red stuff for the front of a sierra greens are not up to the job at all, They overheat and warp the disks, I think ebc is not necicerily the problem but perhaps the advice to fit greenstuff pads to a big heavy and powerfull car.

I tried this after having the way you are suggesting, was loads better and would never go back on it
Black Stuff EBC pads work a treat, but are like an OE equivilent of a Ford pad anyway
Red Stuff being recommended!!
That's a racing pad isn't it?

On any high performance car (ie. Sierra Cosworth / Impreza / Evo) EBC recommend Redstuff pads, as someone has already stated, Green is not up to the job. Greenstuff is fine for your Saxo's etc.
I have the new Redstuff "Ceramic" on my 2WD Cosworth and it is a fantastic material. All the Jap Boys are raving about this material at the moment.

Dave,
if they are just grooved, and the vent ribs inside the disc are straight, it doesn't matter which way the grooves face - just personal preference and cosmetic appeal
The significant bit about Gareth's AP picture is the curved vent ribs - these need to be fitted on the right side for correct rotation, so the air is drawn from the middle of the disc to the outside
