Digital Camera recoomendations please chaps!
Well, since discovering that the 2mp camera built into the Nokia N70 I got is in fact complete SHITE (looking at the "test" pics on Nokia's site and on the web it looks like it takes great pics - well I fiddled with all the settings and took a bunch of different pics and they all shit!!!) it looks like I am in the market for a new digi-cam!
Up till now I have been stuck with an old Fuji DX8 cam I have had for ages - which has suffered a bit now and doesn't really take clear pics anymore. Couple what with it being a 1.3mp (I think) cam, only does 640x480 and doesn't have zoom, it's time for a better one methinks.
I don't use camera's an awful lot I must admit so it don't have to be all singing all dancing, and when I do use em the pics only usually end up being emailed to people or stuck up on forums so again don't have to be the biggest pixel size and the cam don't have to be cutting edge 8billion megapix or whatever - but these features would be nice;
1) Built in flash
2) Built in viewfinder and LCD screen (no smaller than 1.5", prefer closer to 2")
3) Be easy to use and fairly automatic in it's settings - I am no buff so don't want to have to mess with it for ages to get good pics
4) have zoom (at least 3x optical)
5) run on either Smartmedia or MultiMedia/Secure Digital cards (for my card reader)
6) would like to be around the 3.2 to 4mp range if poss
7) Not be too big - my DX8 is a bit bigger than a pack of smokes, and my bro's Fuji 2800 takes awsome pics, but is chunky, and doesn't easily fit anywhere other than a case or bag...
Was looking at the Nikon Coolpix 3200, Sony Cybershot (3.2mp) (not sure if my card reader does Memory Stick tho, have to check) and some Fuji ones, but the later ones all seem to use xD pic cards which I can't support....
Anyone got any idea's what to be looking at and better still post some example pics of what kind of pics the camera's you have take?
I don't want to spend a lot, and probably won't buy new (most likely go get one off ebay)
I thank you
EDIT
Here's a comparrison between my Fuji DX8 and my bro's Fuji 2800 - if I could get pics like his takes I'd be very happy.
1st pic - just after I got it quite a few years ago;
And one taken with the same cam this summer - you can see the picture deteriation(sp)
And then one taken with my bro's cam, inside in low light, and only on the medium setting (think his is a 2mp camera, resolution for medium is 1024x768 I think, but I had to shrink this down for a forum post) - so much clearer with tonnes more detail!!!

i have jutt bought a pentax optio 50 and I am very impressed with it, Its sport mode is very impressive and the zoom function still offers very sharp and bold shots... well worth a look as i am no camera buff and this one is ultra user friendly...
Kelkoo have them at around Ł130 ish I believe...

Matt - those pics look nice, be interesting to see what full size, full resolution ones would look like...
I like the look and sound of these IXUS cams, but looking around they are a bit out of my price range
Sounds cheap but ideally I only wanna spend around Ł50, which is why I am looking second hand/ebay jobs.... I could go a little higher, but not a lot as I really wouldn't use it enough to make it worthwhile, it's just when I do use it it'd be nice to to take shit pics

TBH I think you'll struggle finding an Ixus for Ł50, although you should find something half decent for that money if you look hard enough I reckon.

Matt, i bought a Fuji Finepix E510 just before xmas from argos, it was on special offer 89.99 reduced from 179.99
Heres 2x pictures i took this morning on full 5.2mp setting, the resolution was 2592 x 1944, i have resized them to wallpaper size (1024 x 768) in the links below.

For digital-camera reviews & owner-opinions, try the following website:
http://www.dpreview.com
Mine's a Nikon Coolpix 3100......eats through batteries a bit (which is why I've amassed a collection of about 32 rechargable batteries, from when I used to do the car-shows properly - 688 pics was my record for a 3-day car-show, a long time ago), but does take very good pics for a camera of its size & expense. Looks like it's got a 4.5 out of 5 rating on DPReview...
The "Side-By-Side" feature on DPReview is very useful......get a shortlist of cameras, add them all to the list, and it shows you all the features side-by-side on the same page...

Oh, and here's an example (from a while ago) of a pic with my Coolpix 3100 (it's through glass, aswell, by the way):
Full-sized pic (since the pic-resizing code has made it slightly unclear)
That's only on the 1024x768 setting, aswell, the camera will take bigger/higher-res photos...

i would have recomended this one
http://www.steves-digicams.com/2003_reviews/sl300r.html
because it's the dogs and the pics it takes are crystal clear all the time (and at best settings they are around the 1mb mark), but apparently they don't sell them anymore AND they have no support, so when it goes wrong (like mine needs a new battery) you can't get one
i've looked everywhere for SD ram and a block battery but they are all at least Ł150 to begin with

Konica Minolta Dimage X50 - slimmer than a pack of fags, 2.5in screen, aluminium case, Ł150 or less now, for ant electrical stuff i always use Costco as they exchange stuff no quibble so when newer camera comes out i take it back and upgrade everytime lol....shush tho dont tell.

I like the look of the IXUS 500 that Matt J has, and also the 40 that was mentioned.. I also like the look of the Sony Cybershot DSCW12.... But I have a feeling that all three are out of my price range

the ixus 40 is getting cheaper now, as its not all that new, its a year or so old, but still a great little camera. ive just had a look on ebay and theres loads on buy it now for 174.99 and also some ending in 8-17hrs for around 110-130 quid. within your budget

Bought one - get a Canon IXUS (PowerShot S100 model, 2.1mp, 3x optical zoom, yadda yadda)
Seems pretty good so far - it arrived today but battery was dead so just charging it up now, but the seller left a bunch of pic on the flash card (shame there's no naked bints on it tho ) and I just put the CompactFlash card in my card reader and the pics appear to be of a good quality. When it's charged I'll take some test pics to see how good I can get it looking
Best thing about it tho - it's fooking TINY! Seriously, apart from being a few mm thicker, it's about the same size as a box of 20 fags! Got a tiny screen on it tho - only 1.25" Still, there ain't much room on it for a bigger one!
It's all metal body like the other IXUS camera's which makes it a bit heavy, but also feels solid and well built which is nice....
As was the price - Ł45 inc postage

2.1 is a big jump over my less-than-1mp camera Andy.... And to be honest, for what I use it for, there's no point going 4/5/6mp as the price tag ain't worth it for me. I did look at a couple of the ISUX II cam's which are virtually the same but 3.2mp, but they were selling for more money than I had to spend... So in about an hour when the battery is charged I'll give it a go and see how it fairs

Here we go - just took a bunch of random shots to see how they come out. This one is done on normal (fine) quality (1600x1200, reduced size to 1024x768 for uploading) done in AUTO mode (auto flash, auto focus, auto white balance etc) in the macro setting, about 6inches from the cans. I think it came out pretty well
BB Resizer has shrunk it to 640x480
So here's the 1024 image;
