Can downloaded movie files such as .mpg and .avi etc be played on a DVD Player?

Is it down to the way you burn them onto disc?

no they cant. unless you have a player that supported them (i've got a KISS DP-450)

you can convert the file to DVD format, and then burn it tho

try a program called WinAVI (do a google) its the fastest ive found. should take about 2 hours to convert a movie to DVD format. the just use nero or something to burn it to DVD-Video

If your dvd player is an cheap asda type one, then chances are it will be svcd compatable.....

If you make sure you download films that are MPEG2/SVCD format, and then just burn the raw data on to a dvd, your player will play them as normal.......no chapters, menu's etc though.

Check that site out, put in the make and modle of your player, and it will tell you what you can/cant play. It also contains guides on how to convert avi files in to compatable files.

So, if I have, for example, a 700meg .avi file that would normally play in Windows Media Player and I burn that onto DVD, will it play on the DV-444?

I also have PowerDVD Power Director which I have been using to join movies together. I guess if it needs convertng, that will do it?

If you get Win AVI make sure it's a proper one...

If not you'll have 'WIN AVI CONVERTER' in the middle of the screen all through the film, lol

It depends what format the avi file is.......if its an MPEG2 file then yes your dvd player will play it no problem.........if its a Divx, MPEG4, Xvid etc, then you will have to convert the file in to a format that your player will read, before you burn it.

no, dont do multisession. it allows you to write to the same disc more than once. you dont need to
