Who would you trust in the Southeast to fit a loom/ECU?

megasquirt is a no-no sorry.
ok that MBE ecu is not available, so looks like i'm buying new. ive just been looking at omex, and looks like thats going to be an exoensive route to go, as only their top model will support 6cyl engines
i'm deffo thinking along the lines of emerald
garage, i'm intersting in your offer, but im not after mapping (deffo not with me driving!) as i would get it booked in with mr walker (and probably MSD at a very later date if i get any more goodies added)

johhny, nice of you to try and bait me
butch, gotech management is not suitable for my application. it needs to run a NASP 6cyl dizzyless engine

Given a choice I would go 100% with Emerald
I've fitted both Emerald and Megasquirt and Emerald is a lot less hassel (it does cost more though!) Emerald is easy as pie to wire up yourself and base maps are FREE, the Bosch sensors Dave Walker recomends have a different thread to the Ford ones and I had to make a couple of adaptors for the air temp and water temp sensors. Remember to shield the crank position sensor wire whatever system you go for

Mark,
Having fitted both too, i agree. Megasquirt is a quarter of the price but twice the hassle.
Last time i spoke to DW he had resistance curves for alot of the stock sensors. He certainly had the cossie sensors and can just reflash the ecu with the right resistance curve values.
Jim,
Awww, the mapping is the fun part! I will do you a deal. You buy a M3DK and read the instalation destructions. If you still think that making a loom is too hard to attempt drop me a line and i will sort you a price for fitting. I will garuntee you that once you have a sit down and a read you can probably do it yourself.

garage, i know HOW to makea loom myself, but i would not attempt it JUST INCASE.
ask me to do some techy stuff with PCs and i'm your man... ask me to wire up an ECU and i leave that to the experts.
re: DIY... been there, done that and its a LOT less hassle to pay people who know what theyre doing to do the work for you.
andy, i dont think this needs to be an ECU vs ECU thread. i have my reasons for not wanting megasquirt, and theyre not entirely based on its technical failings. but surfice to say i have made an informed decision.

A shit car to one person is anothers pride n joy, you should know that, owning an RS Turbo
not the fact they removed his "bodged" gaffer tape off his air filters and replaced it with that SUPER AND EXPESIVE STUFF
INSULATION TAPE
they also said the driver for the extra injectors where shagged and he needed a 5th mapaple injector driver for his car ( im sure ive heard that line before though )
turns out it was a broken wire in the injector plug that stoped it working
but in all fairness i dont think they understanded the car that well and jim only used em as no body else had a 4wd rr local at the time
jim why not try jano, hes not fair and no matter your differences hes no con artist or a smacked arse mechanic
JUST LIKE TO ALSO ADD THAT POWERS SEEMS TO BE MORE INTERESTED IN THE WORK ON PEOPLES CARS THESE DAYS, PROB DUE TO MATT GETTING A JOB THERE, BUT WHAT EVER IT IS THEY SEEM TO MAKE PEOPLE HAPPY

ok i think i've settled on field motorsport (unless people start PMing me with horror stories, which i doubt)
they're not cheap by a long way, but going on previous people's experience they should do a shit hot job.
been told i'm looking at about 3 days (@8hrs a day) labour to:
fit loom/ecu/sensors
fit cams (+timing etc)
now that does seem a bit long to me, but i dont mind paying if i'm getting top bollocks service.
so i'm probably looking at 1.5K + the cost of the loom (which is going to take it over the 2k mark ) so probably a total cost of 3.5k including the ecu and came... thats without mapping
all this for about 5bhp
