Escort WRC Wide Track - Hows it done ?
The WRC cars have a wider rear track dont they My questions 1: how do they flare the rear arch (is it a different panel) Could it be done post paint or is it something that needs doing pre painting and prep 2: is it the rear beam thats different and how 3: whats the benefit
Dunno why im asking just wondered

Didn't billabong post a pic of something up then saying this is the new 'beam'? lol
I know that the later WRC Escort's had square section arm's or something along those lines didnt they?

As Bill said, Martin's is a GrpA "beam". The WRC set up has no "beam" at all but a completely different set up closer to a Mk3/Mk4 escort than the origional Sierra/Escort "beam" set up.

Ahh I see! Sort of
Whats the difference between GRP A and WRC then, thought they were the same sorta thing? lol
Was I right about using the square arms, think there Magnesium aswell arnt they?

Wide track only refers to the GpA cars , this is acheived by using the "wider track " rear arms ( Black Tarmac ones like mine ) . The regs for wRC allowed a fully independent rear end that allows full adjustment on tie rods and a mcpherson strut instead of semi trailing arms .
IIRC these are overall 28mm wider than a std track .
Not a great pic but you get the idea

There are 5 levels of track for the various grp'a' & wrc escorts...
Grp 'a' gravel spec 1992 - 1993....(red tca's, green arms)
Grp 'a' wide track tarmac spec 1992 - 1994 (blue tca's black arms)
Grp 'a ' super wide tarmac spec 1994 - 1996 (gold tca's Black arms)
WRC Gravel Spec which was the same as a grp'a' wide track tarmac 1994 spec. (narrow lateral links, black tca's, gravel hubs(which are similar but not the same as a grp'a' hub)
WRC Tarmac Spec....(longer lateral links, black tca's and tarmac hubs)
The track is acheived with different tca's, hubs, beams, front x memebers...there are many levels of all these components and matching them can prove frustrating....
As said the major difference is that WRC cars have a cradle and lateral links....
The wrc shells and some later grp'a' cars had the bodywork widened and heightened to increase suspension travel (particularly on tarmac).
The later grp'a' cars were every bit as good as the WRC cars active diffs etc....the only other advantage was the weight....mag arms are still relatively heavy...
Cheers

This may sound like a complete newbie question, but reading up above, i thought the escos used independant rear suspension - similar to what's been described in detail in its 5 variants right?
as for the wings, i was of the impression they were widened due to the widened rear track of the car coupled with the fact it was not a conventional escort chassis, but a sierra item clothed in special escos bodywork.
the vents on the bottom of the rear spoiler of that jenspeed escos are there to pull out the hot air from the boot mounted rear radiator.

As for the suspension, i'm just as confused as you are! HTH

forget about it,you wont ever need it and wont ever find it,if you do could you justify paying for it?

Cheers to Ian for the full sp ! Tim youre right of course but youre answer could be mis construed that a wide track beam would give the full effect, i forgot to add that , but of course both work hand in hand . My mods go well beyond the std car shape and are obtained with all sorts of tweeks !

Oscar....
It is still available in U.K. but becoming hard to find...some super wide track tca's and shafts etc sold on ebay a few weeks ago....
Tim would be better than me to advise on s/hand availability...
You would be well advised to buy a front or rear setup complete of a car as individually the parts add up to a fortune...
Some parts are still available new from Dewitts...
I have all the shaft length, tca, rear arms information (909) part no's etc if you need em....
Regards
