Default Turbo Surge

Was just reading Spadge's post about his surging turbo and whether or not to enter totb3.

Well for us people (like me) who dont know what surging is can we have a technical response as to what it is and what causes it etc.

there is a post somewhere on here already discussing it in great detail. use the search function and type in turbo AND surge and you should find it.

basically, gareth t is, of course, as usual, correct.

You also normally get surge when the boost comes in.....ie on a T4 4000rpm and goes onto around 5000rpm....then it can clear. You will also find it only does it from 3rd gear onwards..4th if your lucky

On the MD240R it comes on boost at something like 2800rpm and surges up till about 4200rpm and the boost is capped at something like 14 psi then the air to air just wind it up to 35psi and hold it at 30 something or other...

Stu might be able to remember all the specifics or something cos I can't!!

I could be a politician or a solicitor with that reply!
