No real difference between the 2 codes... just year of manufacture.. To help with a perfect match do you have the date of manufacture for the vehicle?? Do you need to match the paint to a car? Or are you just wanting any Imperial Blue? The paint mix varies over the years marginally that`s all..
Hope this helps

Thanks.
No the colormatch doesn't need to be spot on.
The car (mk1 Fiesta) is reprayed allready, just want to color code small bit in the engine bay. (valvecover etc). And I want to do this myself so therefor I want to get a spraycan mixed up. Because I don't trust the pre-mix cans you can get from the carpart shops arround here.
Thanks a lot.

Always best 2 get it mixed up like u say mate get a better match
Have u not got the original code from what the car was sprayed?! or might be worth askin where did it for it?!
Either way mate where ever u get to mix it will have all the colour codes etc for pretty much most cars so just ask them when u go down there
If u got a part of the car u can take down with u aswell they might be able 2 use it to get as good a match as they can

MaRtein i presume its you off xrtwo
I thought you had some blue paint left over surely you could take it to some paint shop near you and they could mix some up.

Hi Brookesy,
Yes it's me from the xrtwo.com forum
I had some left overs and used it to spray the cover, but I'm not happy with the results. (not sure what the problem is, might be the paint itself. I went to a paintshop, they could mix it up, but I needed to give a paint code (not a name) and then put it in a spraycan for me (as I don't have a compressor)
Cheers,
Martein

Well according to my the list of Cosworth paint codes imperial blue is H.
If they stick it in a spraycan for you put it in a bowl of warm water and make sure the room your spraying it in is warm it will help the paint go on better.

Bit strange Most mixing places should have a colour scheme so they can just look it up if need be, as sometimes the code on the car is acutally wrong especially with fords!!! i had 2 now that the code on the car was wrong and had 2 search for it manually!!!
What happened 2 it that u wernt happy with mate!?!

@ Toe Knee, yeah i thought it a bit odd aswell, but it's the only shop arround here who does custom colors in a spraycan.
It's an alloy valvecover, I used epoxy primer special for alloy, to make sure the paint will stick better etc.
After that I used primer coat, so I got a equal color (so it's easier to see if there are little imperfections in the cover and paint. this was very good, and smooth as it should be.
I had some left over paint (waterbase) but haven't got a compressor to paint it with. So I ended up with a bottle and C02 can to spray the paint on.
This time the finish was not very smooth (looks like hammerrite, sort of.)
I sand it down, using waterproof sandpaper and scotch-bright, sprayed again, but no luck.
I used to spray more with cans, without any problems....
Hope this helps a bit.

Ah didnt realise u wernt from the uk explains it then lol, paint codes may different over there then might be worth ringing a ford dealer to get one u need!
In reguards to the paint did u degrease it first?! waterbased u have 2 use a speacial degresant specifically for water based so could be why. Also maybe using paint meant for a gun the way u did also could have caused a problem as its meant to be sprayed at 2bar of pressure to atomise it properly!!!
Plus....... was it thinned down with the proper water?! All paints have to be thinned down when used with a gun, solvent based you use a thinner whereas water u use a special de-ionised water so it 'flashes off' easier but, if it was sprayed in a cold room it would take forever to flash off thats the downside with waterbased stuff!!! plus has 2 be put on in thin-ish coats if its 2 thick again prob wouldnt have dried/flashed off. PLus if it hadnt been thinned down could explain it as its too thick really.
If u didnt get it right and didnt take it back to primer the basecoat probably would have stuck verywell 2nd time round.
But you had primed it fine in the first place so shouldnt have been 2 do with that
May be something to do with it anyway mate

Hi,
thanks for all your replies!
I think it's got something to do with the spraything I used to put the color on.
(this CO2 filled spraygun was getting freezing cold after a shot while) I also think the pressure was lower than the 2 bar you mentioned.
Anyway, I sand it down again and start whole over again.
Today I bought a custommade spraycan with H3 color (imperial blue 1992 etc) so should work out fine now.
I'll keep you updated !
Best regards,
Martein
