Default is XP's standard firewall any good?

is the standard firewall built into windows xp any good? i have zone alarm but it wont allow my laptop to connect to internet when on the network, the laptop can only connect if i turn zone alarm off-i've tried to configure it but it makes no difference, can anone recomend a good firewall (ie FREE) i can download that are easy to configure to networking?

Yeap, you prolly don't need to use anything else for home use.

If it's serving web pages or owt to the outside world or is on a LAN it needs a little tweaking.

Try Kerio personal firewall - it's free - www.kerio.com - and is very easy to use.

its ok, but u cant allow certains programes like ftp etc.
if u want a fully controllerable one get ZA or norton etc

the firewall on windows xp service pack 2 is really good, however, becuase ive only got a 1.5gig laptop, i found it slows my machine down a lot.

i cant use the xp firewall because i use direct connect for downloads and it doesn't let you do that. unless of course you know the exact port that it uses and u can allow it through.

if u download service pack 2 and have a doggy xp code ur machine wont boot up till u get an offical code

you need to use zone alarm pro to be able to do that

not the free one

and it works very well

The XP firewall is pants.
The pc im on just now (running winxp)has had 3 viruses and 2 trojans in the past 2hrs.

I just installed Sygate personal firewall (free from downloads.com) and it appears to be doin the job
