The one that cuts the fuel pump when you disconnect it . It is normally a yellow one under the dash, passenger side.

You can also disconnect the phase sensor for the same affect can't you Mike? At least that's what Stu showed me to do

Right, i have type in the engine dyno figures of when the engine was originally built by Harvey Gibbs and the oil psi only goes upto 38 psi @ 5500 anyway

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EngSpd EngTrq EngPwr Oil Boost Wtr In AirTemp
1/min lb-ftC BHPcor PSI PSI C C

3030 392.9 226.4 33 30 80 9
3520 402.5 269.4 33 32 74 8
4020 384.6 294.0 34 31 78 9
4510 378.1 324.2 32 29 76 9
5010 376.1 358.3 32 29 77 9
5500 354.8 371.1 38 27 76 11
5990 337.8 384.7 34 26 74 10
6500 328.9 406.6 31 24 79 8
7020 297.5 397.1 30 23 79 9
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Any comments on this then as this engine currently in my car is giving similar psi figs and the engine has done 11K. My mechanic drove it today and set the boost upto 27psi as he kept runnin out of road and there was too much traffic So he is gonna do it tomorrow.

IIRC from a previous post about this Ran, the printout of dyno oil pressure figures isn't what are actually seen in reality as it's not held at the revs long enough to register a proper figure........or something like that anyway!

Hi peeps

I know this might sound daft but untill recently my engine only use to have 13 psi oil pressure on tickover with castrol Rs 10/60 it has been like this for 2 yrs or more and engine hasn't failed yet ....it dose rise to 82 psi when thrashing it .....since last week Martin fitted my sump and a new high pressure oil pump ,on idel it's now at 40 psi when the oil is warm he did show me the pump and it was fooked tobe honest atleast my engine never failed thats the mainthing i might have been abit lucky because i did do about 6 trackdays and it could have failed any time ....

Marco :to: thats what i was thinking as Ryan has driven it when it was in his saff and it was good as gold and plenty of power. My mechanic mate Geoff has driven it today and says it is fine and it "goes like a rocket".

So what do i do now?

Ran

well, i would say get a proper pressure tester on it and make sure it has been calibrated...

If this is Ryan engine out of the saff i know this was a good engine

and i did tell him not to sell it and keep it for a 3dr which he wants ...

Ran, personally I would be getting him to sort out the oil pressure issue rather than thrashing it around setting it up!

ryan, top bloke, quality offer pal

ran, not good, just for a little comparison my car runs about 25psi at idle and 60psi minimum anywhere on boost (3krpm+), it does run a modded pump to give more pressure but also has a 19 row oil cooler so the net effect is std oil pressure im told. does your engine run an after market cooler?

Get it hooked up to a propperly calibrated gauge...I'd assume the one used at the RR was a recently calibrated one, or should have been? Looks very low, even at high RPM its under 40psi.

Get it apart and have a look.....new pump is cheaper than a new engine, id not take the chances.

Matt - no aftermarket oil cooler.

the oil psi reading from the car a higher than the ones on the dyno sheet anyhow as i get 40 psi around 3-4k mark?

How hard is it to change on oil pump and is it expensive?

I will second that comment about Ryan being a top bloke. Took the time out to resolder all my rev counter wires and sold me a great carpet, cheap!

That's certainly a good sign mate! Sounds more & more like it's a dodgy oil pressure gauge to me!

well the engine sounds sweet as and certainly goes well - just needs setting up.

How much are decent oil pumps as i may get this changed to be on the safe side?

You're lookin' at about Ł175 for a brand new 4x4 oil pump mate but I believe it's an engine out job

Why not just buy a racetech gauge (best you can buy) & fitting's mate, they aint expensive & you can sell your old one..........then you'll know if you have a problem or not. No point in changing oil pump if it's not needed!
